Midwest to Middle East. Midwesterners take on the Middle East. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Monthly Archives: September 2013. September 24, 2013. Part of my campus. Libby and I have finally come up with some semblance of a schedule, which is key for someone like myself. I am the ultimate creature of habit/routine. I have to plan out every day of my life or I feel like I’m wasting it–even if that means planning to do nothing. My First Research Trip. Undaunted, I managed to fill out ...

August 31, 2013. 1 What are we doing? I (Aaron) will be conducting research for my dissertation project. What is my dissertation project? I’m looking at “foreign relations” in terms of both American and Israeli labor organizations, and in terms of state-to-state relations. Which were more established first? 2 What is Libby doing? Libby gets t...

Midwest to Middle East. Midwesterners take on the Middle East. Skip to primary content. It’s Almost December and I’m Wearing a T-Shirt. November 22, 2013. Greetings from a sunny and 70 degree-ish Jerusalem. Actually, it’s supposed to be sunny with highs in the mid-70’s this week, not to rub it in or anything…. I (Aaron) apologize that we’ve neglected our blog over the past several weeks, but we’ve been quite busy and/or sick, as I will explain. St George’s Monastery. Midwest to Middle East. Midwesterners take on the Middle East. Skip to primary content. The Dowdalls Have Landed. September 6, 2013. Well, I don’t have a whole lot to tell you about, but I have a whole lot of time to tell you. You see, Libby and I have arrived in Israel smack in the middle of Rosh Hashanah. Rosh Hashanah is the beginning of the Hebrew New Year, and it’s a two-day-long holiday. For Libby and I, it means that almost. The longest I’ve ever flown was. I couldn’t decide whether or when ...

Starting a new life across the Sea of Michigan. Spa Creek in the morning. This obliging rainbow stuck around long enough for me to run inside and get the camera, then stayed through most of the dog walk. The faintest double rainbow / fall tree aura. The bikes move indoors. Since we don’t have a garage or shed, we needed somewhere to put the bikes so they’re accessible but out of the elements. Turns out there is a whole category of indoor-aesthetically pleasing-apartment-bike storage! I spent one sunny af...

Starting a new life across the Sea of Michigan. On the road again! Porch visitors →. When we were looking at apartments from afar to move in to in Annapolis, we were impressed when a complex would list “waterfront” as a feature. Turns out, there is water EVERYWHERE here. Annapolis has a fractal-like shoreline — peninsulas upon peninsulas. Boats take up much of the visible shoreline in many areas. I don’t know, I was hoping for something BIGGER. Do you have something BIGGER? Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Starting a new life across the Sea of Michigan. I’ll miss…. On the road again! Well, we’re officially Maryland residents! Excellent tape-usage planning. Note: a 2-bed apartment takes 4.5 rolls of tape to move. We’ve gone from an apartment way too big for two adults and two pets (1600 sq ft, two floors) to one probably more suited to us, but we’re a little in shock (1000 sq ft, no garage, very little storage). It has been pretty hectic. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Song of the Lark.

Starting a new life across the Sea of Michigan. Newer posts →. I’m going to miss…. 8230;how all the stores give you free coffee to sip while you shop! I’m not going to miss…. 8230;bottle deposits. At first I thought it would be all cute and European, but really it’s annoying and stinky. I’m going to miss…. 8230; olive burgers. I never knew I needed olive burgers in my life til I moved to MI. I WON’T miss about East Lansing…. You know what I’m NOT going to miss? Just driving in general. When we got home w...

Blame it on the volcanic ash. I'm sorry it's been so long since my last post- and I hate the "I'm too busy" excuse, so I chose the volcano instead- here goes! Since my last blog (I'm realizing now just how long it's been! I started out in Paris with my friends Meghan and Hailey- we took a late train out of Munster and ended up getting into Paris around 11:30 pm, figured out the metro system, and found our hostel on the first try.
