Wednesday, May 6, 2015. Call of Cthulhu: The Malleus Monstrorum Hybridized, Part One. Crossposted from a Yog-Sothoth.com forum post. Human-alien hybrids in Call of Cthulhu. alphabetically. ABHOTH, SPAWN OF: A human infected with the Abhoth-like degradation of the flesh, rendering it like rubber or tripe. This probably extends to nerves and brain-tissue, creating odd absences of human feeling or cognition. ADUMBRALI: 'Seeker,' already covered. Might be related to Lemurians. They certainly resemble the hum...

Scallop Skulled Skald: November 2010
http://scallopskulledskald.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Reading the ambitious "inspirational reading" list at Huge Ruined Pile. Led me to believe that an "Appendix Nu. Would be a useful addition to the canon. Appendix Nu would include the body of myth, legendry, historical narratives, and early works of fiction that inspired modern fantastists. The assembly of Appendix Nu would have to be a group effort in order to close any lacunae. Tuesday, November 16, 2010. Reveals some.uh. problems. The Wikipedia entry for the peryton has been...

Scallop Skulled Skald: September 2011
http://scallopskulledskald.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 7, 2011. Origin of the Blink Dog? I can't believe nobody's written on this before, but it just hit me that the blink dog. Is a dead ringer for Eugene the Jeep. From the old Popeye. Cartoons. Of course, the yellow pelt of the blink dog may have had its immediate inspiration elsewhere. But the Jeep shares this coloration:. It must also be said that the Jeep was able to use a limited form of teleportation (among other powers):. But I'll be on the lookout for Popeye the Sailor. The major...

Scallop Skulled Skald: Peryton Sighting?
http://scallopskulledskald.blogspot.com/2011/06/peryton-sighting.html
Friday, June 17, 2011. Ruh-Roh, there's been a peryton. Sighting in Montana. Was this a migratory peryton which got snagged in the wires, or was it a more sinister event, an initial foray to do to Missoula what was done to Rome. Hopefully, the good people of western Montana have some enchanted weapons on hand. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Monster Makeover: Repurposing the Norker. Scallop Skulled Skald: October 2011
http://scallopskulledskald.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 25, 2011. Out of Lovecraft Country. Comes a Lovecraft story, but one not set in "Lovecraft Country". Here's a little horror story set in the Greater Arkham Metropolitan Area. A family became lost in a maize maze. And turned out to be a mere 25 feet from an exit. The funny thing about this incident is that it takes place in Lovecraft Country, but the tale that it uncannily echoes. Takes place on Venus. Somehow, though, I think the Old Gent. Scallop Skulled Skald: Peryton Put-on
http://scallopskulledskald.blogspot.com/2010/11/peryton-put-on.html
Tuesday, November 16, 2010. Being a rabid fan of Jorge Luis Borges, I ordered a copy of the latest edition of the previously scarce Book of Imaginary Beings. And found that the entry for the Perytion (sic- the original Spanish name for the beast was peritio. Reveals some.uh. problems. Let us hope that one day another copy of the work may be discovered and again come to adorn the shelves of some library.". So, the only sources which mention the peritio. Was written by a Frenchman named Pierre Menard.

Scallop Skulled Skald: April 2011
http://scallopskulledskald.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 30, 2011. I don't ordinarily write of real-world topics, but I'll make an exception yet again. For me, the biggest news story of the week came from England. Yes, the death of the remarkable Poly Styrene. Of the X-Ray Spex. Came as a blow to me. The X-Ray Spex 1978 album Germ Free Adolescents. Is perhaps more relevant now than it was when it was released. Featuring such songs as Genetic Engineering. And Germ Free Adolescents. Thursday, April 14, 2011. Monday, April 4, 2011. So much, I atte...

Sunday, May 24, 2015. Call of Cthulhu: The Malleus Monstrorum Hybridized, Part Two. Only a few entries this time, since I'm slaving away on the Dracula Dossier. FLYING POLYP: Sometimes people just get these polyps, you know? They just sort of show up out of nowhere. They might be caused by a viral infection running rampant in someone with a compromised immune system, or just one of those funguses we have on us already suddenly proliferating. It's not weird or anything. Except when they whistle. GREEN ABY...
