Living in the Arctic. I live, explore, work and paint in the hamlet of Ikaluktutiak (Cambridge Bay) which is located on Victoria Island, Nunavut. The island is separated from mainland Canada by the the famed and infamous Northwest Passage. The hamlet is approximately 750km north of Yellowknife. There are no roads to where we live and in fact no roads that even come close, so any trips to the south are either by air or snowmobile if you're brave enough. Is it worth it?

My intention is to express the spirit of that which is unmistakably arctic. If I were to be too abstract, then the paintings would lose their arctic flavour. If I were to approach realism too closely, then the paintings would have no soul. It is a difficult balance.
