http://mikaylabutchart.blogspot.com/2012/12/holiday-shopping-sneak-peek-felt-forest.html
Holiday shopping sneak peek: Felt forest trees. I will have my felt forest trees for sale at the Shop Party. Holiday craft fair in Santa Rosa this Sunday, December 9! These are an improved version of the trees I mocked up in May as an ode to Hendy Woods. Several of these sold at Shop Party, but there's still some left and I'm always making more. Find them in my Etsy shop. Posted by Mikayla Butchart. This is the blog of San Francisco-based illustrator, artist, and editor Mikayla Butchart.

Some simplified versions of the bridges of the Bay Area that I drew for use in a larger map project. I didn't end up using these, but I think they're kind of nice in their own right. (Looks like I forgot to draw the Dumbarton Bridge, though. Oopsie! Posted by Mikayla Butchart. I am your fanciest, most elderly friend.}. I just finished my second class of a two-session calligraphy workshop at Makeshift Society. With the lovely Maybelle Imasa-Stukuls. And I'm so charmed! Photo by Celeste Noche.

Mikayla Butchart Illustration: Tsar Comics
http://mikaylabutchart.blogspot.com/2014/03/tsar-comics.html
I've been taking a Comics and Graphic Novels class this spring, and it's so much fun! We get to do terrifying things like draw on a timer and then pass our drawing to the next person! It's been all-around great though, and I've learned so much in a short period of time, including how heavily I rely on reference and how I've never had to draw a facial expression before, ever. Also, maybe this would have been easier if I hadn't used a paintbrush? Our fantastic instructor Meredith Leich. All images and text.

Mikayla Butchart Illustration: Family trees
http://mikaylabutchart.blogspot.com/2013/12/family-trees.html
One of my closest childhood friends recently had a baby girl, so in her honor the felt trees. I've been making for years now find themselves in the family way, too. I've been experimenting with packaging, but I'm not sure you can buy these mesh bags for quantities less than one hundred thousand and anywhere but direct from China. Anyway, you can find individual trees of different sizes here in my Etsy shop. Posted by Mikayla Butchart. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). All images and text.

True North, Brave and Free! Fall's here, and I say good riddance, bummer summer! It's been a busy season with a little bit of travel and a lot of work and a ton of ugh why no. I hope there's colors. Mikayla Butchart Illustration: The Great White North diorama
http://mikaylabutchart.blogspot.com/2013/12/the-great-white-north-diorama.html
The Great White North diorama. I made this small sculptural painting by assembling an ink painting of a Canadian winter scene in layers within a small box. I slipped a light behind one of the layers to give the house a warm interior glow, which can be turned on and off from the exterior of the box. This was a Christmas gift for my hoser best friend. He's pretty stoked. The painting broken into layers in Photoshop }. Posted by Mikayla Butchart. Contact me: mikayla [dot] butchart [at] gmail [dot] com.

My best friend is moving to Portland. To see him off, I got him some warm socks and painted up this little scene to clarify. I don't know why I encourage him. Posted by Mikayla Butchart. Mikayla Butchart Illustration: Illustrated friends + family gift tags
http://mikaylabutchart.blogspot.com/2013/12/illustrated-friends-family-gift-tags.html
Illustrated friends family gift tags. It's like I don't have anything better to do during the busiest week of the year. (But these were a hit. Even Maggie changed her profile picture on Facebook, even though I painted her face covered in cake to accompany the cookbook I illustrated for her for Christmas.). Posted by Mikayla Butchart.
