I was born in Port Elizabeth South Africa, 10th May 1940, the day Holland fell to the Nazis. I can still remember the midwife saying, OY VAY! Educated at Grey High School, matriculating First Class in 1956, Drum Major in the School’s Centenary celebrations, our band featuring in the African Mirror newsreels! Qualified as a Dental Surgeon at Wits University Johannesburg in 1962 and left SA for London that year. Married Julia in 1967 and three daughters arrived- Lisa(1969) Sara(1970) and Aviva (1974).

I can only write when I’m smoking. Problem is I gave up smoking at age eleven. So instead I became a Dentist. This meant I could only smoke between patients. But I wasn’t smoking at all. So I spent 45 years of my life filling teeth. Now I’m a retired dentist. So I can write again. Mainly because I can smoke again. So, next to my PC I have an enormous humidor. Full of cigars which I'm not allowed to smoke in the house. How to write a novel at the bottom of the garden. In England when it’s raining.
