The Stroke Blog: April 2013
http://www.mike-jess.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Organika Shop, Gozo. Earlier this spring I had the pleasure of finding the loveliest little shop on the island of Gozo. Organika. Is operated by a kind woman from Paris, who knew everything about every product in her shop (where it came from, how it was made) and was gracious enough to let me take a few photos. Organika also has a free multilingual book exchange. How fun is that? Ps i was not compensated for this post. i simply liked this shop. Links to this post. Ramla Bay, Gozo.
The Stroke Blog: December 2013
http://www.mike-jess.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 31, 2013. A beginner's guide to buying art. I thought I wasn't a collector of anything until I looked around my living room the other day and realized, shit. This counts as a art collection. I think I own about 80 pieces if you count those too big to transport across the Atlantic (gathering dust in my parents basement). It's a thrilling and scary thought considering I'm still in my twenties. I'll cover auctions in a separate post, as most beginners will buy in a gallery setting. No matt...

http://www.mike-jess.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 31, 2013. New / When in / Mini Travel Guides. Inspired by a dear friend. Who lovingly prepared a great list of where to eat, stay, and go in Sicily for me) I have compiled all of my most basic travel recommendations into one simple format. Organized by country, my new "When In" mini travel guides. Include a one phrase description of the city, what/who it's good for, where to sleep and eat, what to see, and the best souvenirs to take home. No information overload here. Links to this post.
The Stroke Blog: Feeling patriotic, more or less.
http://www.mike-jess.com/2014/06/feeling-patriotic-more-or-less.html
Monday, June 30, 2014. Feeling patriotic, more or less. I have always felt a bit.uncomfortable about patriotism. The way it sparks conflict and division makes me uneasy. But living 'overseas' I surprise myself with the fondness I feel growing a bit bigger, year after year, for my. Home and native land ( that's a line from our anthem. I wrote a whole blog post about how I feel about Canada. Everything that is good about it, why I feel so lucky to be Canadian. And then I hit delete. And I hate that. Our na...

An expatriate's life in Port Gentil, Gabon. Out of West Africa. Of course, we always get excited to travel but it means something a little bit more to us these days. It means getting out of West Africa. Here are some photos via Instragram of those little things we enjoyed on our first few days in Spain. Different beer (for me, a Newcastle – for Joe, Sierra Nevada IPA). Salads and fresh vegetables and fruit. Laquo; Au revoir Gabon, Hola Spain. Date : April 30, 2012. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Our Little Kingfisher Friend | Into West Africa
https://intowestafrica.wordpress.com/2012/04/18/our-little-kingfisher-friend
An expatriate's life in Port Gentil, Gabon. Our Little Kingfisher Friend. Every afternoon, usually between 4 and 5, our little kingfisher friend stops by for a dip in the pool. He sits up on the ledge of the eavestrough and every once in awhile, he hurls himself into our pool before returning to the ledge to shake off. By the way, it’s extremely difficult to get a good picture of the little guy with our point and shoot. I think it’s time to upgrade! Laquo; Around Town. Au revoir Gabon, Hola Spain. Enter ...
Moving to Gabon? | Into West Africa
https://intowestafrica.wordpress.com/moving-to-gabon
An expatriate's life in Port Gentil, Gabon. So you or your husband/wife has been offered a position in Gabon and you are wondering if you should go…. With that being said, you need to come with an open mind. I’ve met several women who come and hate that it’s different and can’t, or won’t, cope with the difficulties. Those who tend to look at the negative side of everything often have a tougher time here. You have to be prepared to take the good with the bad. I can’t stress this enough! If your company pr...

Wednesday, January 30, 2013. Let's act like I have not posted in over and month, kiss and make up and just move forward. I have to share my new love.my La Chamba casserole dish with lid that I got for Christmas from my parents. I wanted something multipurpose and this is the best! I can make soup or beans in it on the stove stop and also bake in it, in the oven. It is gorgeous as well. Nice and deep and about 4.5 quarts so good size for 2-4 people. More information here Toque Blache. Links to this post.
*{Maltese Kat}*: Afterwork Snack
http://www.maltesekat.com/2013/02/afterwork-snack.html
Saturday, February 23, 2013. I made these potato chips for the Mr. afterwork yesterday and he flipped over them! I had one idea and it sort of went it's own way and turned into these lovelies. Super easy to make. I had baked potatoes left over from the night before in the fridge so I sliced them at an angle, heated some olive oil and a drizzle of my garlic oil ( here. And fried them up. When they were done, I put them on a cooling rack and salted them while hot so the salt would stick. SF girl by bay.

Thursday, November 29, 2012. It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas. My vintage skaters had to go up, every year I must have them to honor my Aunt Mary who was so kind to give them to me - I even put up the lights! I love my kitchen shelves that my Dad put in, they are a great place to stash little holiday things. I even was motivated enough to swap out my dishes.yes, I have holiday dishes. I don't get them out every year, but wanted a change so I did it this year. Links to this post. I also made so...

Monday, September 09, 2013. I am just getting around to cracking these babies open (yes, Vogue is really 902 pages! This past week I have been obsessed with photos and video from New York Fashion week on style.com; I think tonight is the night I start flipping through my favorite glossy monthly mags as I need a break from screen-time. With Bazaar having SJP on the cover, that one will definitely be first. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). By all means, yes, you may link to my blog. An American in Malta.

Mike and I are planning a trip to Orlando (just the 2 of us) the first week of November while Nana and Grandpa M. visits with the kids. I'm so excited!
