My HTML/CSS Styles For Success. Jan 23, 2014 Mike Seid. Over the past few years, I have built sites small and large. From my experience, and learning from my peers around me, I have developed a guide for success. With these guidelines, you can build a great site, and maintain healthy CSS. Under specify, rather than over specify your entities. The HTML tags are your friend. Many newbies to CSS forget you can use style the tags. Use this to your advantage and only name items you need to name. Good Code div...

Make sure staging/production hardware and software in in parity. This one seems pretty simple and obvious, but it something that bit us pretty hard. Play Framework 2 HTTP to HTTPS redirect
http://blog.seid.io/2014/01/09/play-framework-2-http-to-https-redirect.html
Play Framework 2 HTTP to HTTPS redirect. Jan 9, 2014 Mike Seid. One good feature of Play Framework is that it doesn’t require an HTTP server in front of it. Play runs netty under the hood and it takes care of the HTTP service. Unfortunately, the play team decided not to support HTTPS currently. So I am using an Amazon ELB (Elastic Load Balancer) to both balance my servers and terminate the HTTPS connections. No need to modify any of your application code. It’s clean and maintains state.

The next phase - Naytev. May 20, 2014 Mike Seid. Is the product of a few years work, and figuring out what people desire for their websites, marketing and social needs. Initially implemented as a selling feature of our cause marketing platform, Changecause. Naytev’s technology came from Changecause’s ability to optimize the social posts the platform was issuing. We found that our clients really wanted that feature more than anything so we spun it out into its own product and haven’t looked back since.

Sep 25, 2012 Mike Seid. SQL errors are always a whole lot of fun to debug when you are working with an ORM . To help this, I always have my generated SQL statements logged during development. Add these two lines to your application.conf. Dbdefault.logStatements=true logger.com.jolbox=DEBUG. Short post, hope it helps. My little space on the large internet. Https:/ mike.seid.io.

Being a Developer in a Large Company. May 16, 2014 Mike Seid. It’s easy to get lost and/or detached in big companies. Ther are so many projects going on in many different ares, that it may seem that you and your project is insignificant. Really, its just hard to stay connected. It’s challenging to stay in the loop, and know whats going on outside your project bubble. You have to try to stay connected, and activly network. Booz Allen Hamiltion/Working From Home. Creating a Play! Framework 2 Module
http://blog.seid.io/2012/08/29/creating-a-play-framework-2-module.html
Aug 29, 2012 Mike Seid. As any project grows, it becomes cumbersome to manage, organize and compile your source code as a single project. Play! Framework gives you an easy way to separate your concerns and create reusable modules. Its pretty easy to create a module, heres how. First, A Play! Module is just a play application itself. Defined as a PlayProject, this module is more or less a standalone Play! This is the most common use case for modules, but you can be a whole lot more creative.

One Problem With Immutable Infrastructure
http://blog.seid.io/devops/scala/2015/08/05/one-problem-with-immutable-infrastructure.html
One Problem With Immutable Infrastructure. Aug 5, 2015 Mike Seid. Dependencies that aren’t hosted by you. We love things being immutable. We develop in Scala and practice immutable infrastructure. For the most part, it works great, until it doesn’t. We were able to work around it by modifying our latest image server images with the our newest code but it wasn’t fun. Overall, I’m still loving our immutable infrastructure but no methodology is perfect. My little space on the large internet.
