Chronicling my birding and other outdoor explorations around Ontario and beyond! Waterloo Region CBC Map. Thursday, 19 March 2015. Greater White-fronted Goose and waterfowl at Long Point. Big Creek is finally open and the warm melt water flowing through it is starting to open up a lead in Long Point's inner bay, so this morning when I stopped to check out the bridge on the causeway there I was happy to find about 1500 Tundra Swans, hundreds of ducks and geese and a single Greater White-fronted Goose.

http://mikeburrell.blogspot.com/2015/04/kingston-lark-sparrow.html
Chronicling my birding and other outdoor explorations around Ontario and beyond! Waterloo Region CBC Map. Monday, 13 April 2015. On this warm spring evening Erica and I were pulling in to our local mini putt establishment when I got a text message from Mark Read. That read "Just found a Lark Sparrow at Lemoine Point.". Yep, he didn't even include an exclamation mark. So, with less than an hour of daylight left, we headed for Lemoine Point. From Pelee Island - most records fall in late April or early May.

Ramblings of a Wildflower. Bird Year List - 2016. Thursday, January 29, 2015. The Road to Sudbury and Back. This past Friday I began to make my way up to Sudbury to visit the boyfriend for a Ice Fishing weekend. I am usually really good at finding my way around places without the use of a GPS (my brain tends to have a pretty good working internal compass! I immediately turned my car around and drive a few meters back to see a beautiful Barred Owl sitting in the closest tree to the road! But it managed to...

Sunday, February 15, 2015. Other Florida Specialties 2015. Here are some more feathered Floridians! Mottled Duck (rear) with feral Mallard (front). Update: after reviewing the timely article on eBird found here. The putative Mottled Duck above actually shows some indications of a mixed genealogy. In particular, the extensive streaking in the cheek together with the appearance of white edging in the tail feathers suggests some unknown degree of Mallard ancestry. The geographical range of the Limpkin inclu...
