Mike's Year in South Korea. Test of Korean or Western Identity. Teacher, I Can’t Miss You →. April 30, 2012. There’s a special place in Korea in an inconspicuous corner of the Coex Mall, which is called the Kimchi Field Museum. Inside, you can discover the history ingredients, and benefits of kimchi, as well as sample 8 different varieties. Moveover, there is a unique photo opportunity which I first encountered in. 2007 with the welcoming and generous, “. Kimchi Lady.”. View all posts by mwitster →.

Mike's Year in South Korea. Kimchi Lady →. Test of Korean or Western Identity. April 14, 2012. Perhaps they don’t even know. Similarly for expats. Like myself, we begin to study Korean language and pick up Korean mannerisms and customs. Are we gradually getting more Koreanized, resulting in cultural “bifocals.” But what is our strongest focus? Anyways, look at what I wrote below and write in the comments what you think it means. What is your first impression? View all posts by mwitster →. This is Ruth,.

Mike's Year in South Korea. Newer posts →. February 14, 2012. Haven’t written here in so long, so I’m just going to start posting some pictures or short posts hopefully. Only 3.5 months left in Korea, and winter is letting up, so time for more adventures. Starting with the almost live octopus (straight from the water onto the frying pan). It goes down smoothly. No tentacles latching on to esophagus. Quite delicious. But I’m going to get a video next time to show you. November 21, 2011. Here in Suji, Korea.

August 28, 2014. Bye, Bye, Bye. Today is my last day at Whimoon Middle School. It would have been awesome if they had switched Monday's Sports Day with today's Speech Contest, but whattaya gonna do? I'm just glad that my last day happened to be on a Friday instead of a dreaded and awkward Monday. I've been saying goodbyes to my classes one surprise at a time with lots of mixed reactions from students. Indifference. Anger. Sadness. Joy? Freaking nasty Mr. Phlegm. :(. Thought of the Day: 10x-20 180. This i...

February 5, 2015. After several months of designing, measuring, planning, and purchasing parts for the new hamster house, Jaime completed her masterpiece last week. We adopted two hamsters from Petco and named them Popcorn and Acorn based on their colors. You can't see Popcorn in this picture, but he's smaller and white. Thought of the Day: Tylenol. Song of the Day: EMPD-Crossover. Thursday, February 05, 2015. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Los Angeles, CA. View my complete profile.

February 24, 2015. Anteater vs. Bruin. I got accepted into UCI's MAT program. But I don't hear back from UCLA for about another month. Not becoming a Bruin could potentially shake things up in a very interesting way. Job and house hunting may have to come back into the picture. My teacher training and potential school districts may look very different too. And who knows what Simon will do! But I don't hear back from UCLA for about another month. Thought of the Day: Mice. August 1, 2015. Learning to Fly while Being Unemployed. I had my last day of class yesterday and my male Italian student messaged me to let me know he was sorry he couldn't make it to say goodbye. Just a week ago, we had talked about how big the Foo Fighters were in Italy, but I had no idea to what extent he was talking about. See for yourself. I start school in two days! September 30, 2014. Thought of the Day: Cold Weather. Tuesday, September 30, 2014. September 25, 2014. I remember how Tiff used to buy the same pair of white shoes from Payless (or was it Target? I later found the same pair in 2011 being sold for clearance at ABC Mart. Like a needle in a haystack. I couldn't believe they were selling me the right shoes with the right size for the better than right price! And then it happened. Yesterday, Jaime made one last search for the shoes and found something sim...

January 29, 2015. So Cal So Cool. This is probably the most dust this blog has ever gathered in its existence. December and January were crazy months that Jaime and I hope we never have to experience again. Just to give you an idea, the wife is set on living here permanently so that she'll never have to move again. Church was weird. I saw a lot of people who recognized me but not vice versa. Teenagers I had taught in youth group were now working adults or even teaching youth group themselves! It was a go...

July 27, 2014. Last week, I found out that my CSETs are not even offered in Korea, which means I need to take them as soon as I get to California in December. Why is it that I'm always having to take those tests whenever I leave or arrive in California! Like a parent to a child. Or even like a husband to a wife. Thought of the Day: Day 3. February 18, 2015. Let Me Serenade the Streets of L.A. There are two things I experience every single day. Sirens. Marijuana. I hear the first. Smell the second. I wonder if the two are related to one another. LA is not what I had expected, but it's good. L.A. is now my new home. Even with the relentless firetrucks and potheads. On My Life's Journey
Sunday, January 20, 2013. We talked long into the night. About things I hold near and deep in my soul. Sharing things that are painful. And hard to carry at times –. Things sometimes best left unsaid and buried –. But needing to come out. And even though the hour was insanely late –. A time that I have to confess,. I have not seen in very, very long time –. The words and stories continued to pour forth. From the rupture in my soul. My confusion, biases, opinions and fears. 169; 2013 Michael Hunter. And f...
Mike In South Korea
Mike In South Korea. Brace yourself for some adventure! Friday, April 4, 2008. Trip to Batanes, Day 7 8 9. Anyway, so the plane lands from coming in from Manila and unloads and then we see them load everyone's luggage and then about 20 minutes later, we see them pulling some of it off. Then some of the staff come in and say that those who have their luggage out of the airplane must come and claim it. Then the next morning I woke up fairly early, went to starbucks which was just a block down the street an...
