Box Hill: 8.1 miles | Mike and the Marathon
https://mikemarathon.wordpress.com/2013/01/05/box-hill-8-1-miles
Mike and the Marathon. I’m running the 2013 London Marathon for ICAN. Box Hill: 8.1 miles. Limbering up in Betchworth. Once a week I visit my personal trainer, the brilliant Karen Marshall. She’s done wonders for me if you’re in my area and want to get fit, talk to Karen. She’s also very excited about me running the Marathon. So she’s been taking me, and some others, out for testing Saturday morning runs. Which is why, on this dank, foggy January morning, I agreed to run up Box Hill. Heading for the hill.
It’s tomorrow! | Mike and the Marathon
https://mikemarathon.wordpress.com/2013/04/20/its-tomorrow
Mike and the Marathon. I’m running the 2013 London Marathon for ICAN. Registration at ExCel yesterday. It all, as they say, comes down to this. Which gives me a distinctly floaty, fluttery feeling in the tum, I have to say. That feeling got fairly intense when I joined the streaming crowd draining off the DLR into the ExCel centre in London for Marathon registration yesterday. Is going to feel like. In fact, the donations are still coming in I had two today! Who’s also supporting the Children’s Trust.

Mike and the Marathon. I’m running the 2013 London Marathon for ICAN. All done. (And all done in.). So here it is. Proof that somehow, I got around the 26.2 miles of the London Marathon, without passing out, vomiting or just giving up and sitting down in the street all of which I felt like doing several times. Hard I really,. The crowds gathering in Greenwich. At the Red Start, feeling a bit funny. Waiting for the off. The atmosphere at the start was pretty amazing. We were herded into our zones (I w...

Mike and the Marathon. I’m running the 2013 London Marathon for ICAN. 10 miles, and something going ‘ba-doiing’ in my hip. After my 18.9-mile run on Saturday, my personal trainer Karen very kindly put together a plan for the rest of the time leading up to the Marathon on the 21st. The ever-scintillating Givons Grove roundabout approach. And I did: I ran the whole ten miles with only that 30-second stretch break at the midway point, and an even shorter break to sort out a wrinkle in my sock that was buggi...

Lost and found: a Nick Thompson story. A word bird reflects on life and language. While this week’s word, sestude, may not be one to set a Scrabble enthusiast’s pulse racing (unlike muzjiks, for instance, the highest scoring game opener), it’s still a word that aspires to big things. The term ‘sestude’ was coined in 2010 by John Simmons. A founding member of writers’ group 26. In the run up to Christmas, you’ll find a daily sestude on 26 Stories of Christmas. And Scottish cancer charity itsgood2give.

Time & tide | Looking Glass Language
https://lookingglasslanguage.com/short-fiction/time-tide
Lost and found: a Nick Thompson story. A word bird reflects on life and language. A fox slinks under the mooring ropes and disappears between pitch-blackened hulls, returning with muddy socks and a downy, green-gold gosling twitching in his jaws. He trots across the beach and springs onto the steps leading to the Chelsea Embankment, skittering on the peabright algae. The rising tide oozes up through the bubbling, plopping, stinking mud, carving its way. All this is timeless. Unchanging. Help visits, and ...
