A photo diary of the birds and my travel's in Euroland. Saturday, 22 March 2014. Black Redstart,(Gibraltariensis). Their secret life in our garden. For the ten years we have owned our house, in the rural Dordogne in France we have been lucky to have nesting Black Redstarts. From early spring as they return from their Winter haunts, their lovely soft whistles and the metallic sound like two ball bearings tapping together, fill the garden. With two nests built it is still far from all happy at the nest!

Wednesday, 17 December 2014. Alpnach Open Day 2014. Late Friday afternoon we pass by Meiringen air base, the low sun catching the Autumn trees, we are on route to Alpnach, for the Swiss Airforce open day, celebrating fifty years of the airfield. Being in Switzerland at the time a small diversion seemed in order. I used a Canon EOS. 1D, Canon 600mm f4 and 100-400 f4.5 5.6. A mix of AS332M-1, AS532UL and EC635PL Helicopters and PC-6 PC-21 fixed wing aircraft take part in the display. Alpnach Open Day 2014.

Whilst out photographing birds at Los Escullos, deep in the Capo De Gato Natural park, I heard, a high level prop, yes a P-3AM Orion coming out of the sun. I just thought colour, Portuguese, took a picture and then downed my speed and took a few more. Luckily, I was using my Canon f.4 600mm, so it seems to be flying a lot lower than in reality. Visiting Landivisiau some years earlier for a Portes Ouvertes, I happened into conversation with the chief of police who joked, in the pouring rain, "we have three weathers in a day". We found a Wryneck in this early period in the gorse and bracken at the south end of Gugh and then saw another found by Will Wagstaff at Kit's Hill at the north end.
