De draaggolf . Joachim's Ham-Radio and Radio-Frequency Blog (A Solderful of Secrets) - from Longwave to Microwaves. Sunday, March 30, 2014. 3 Inch HiFi PVC Pipe - The Alphorn (MLTQWP). Finally I found some time to tell/show a little bit more about the speaker enclosures I was bragging about so much lately. Analogy between a quarter-wave vertical and a quarter-wave speaker enclosure. In acoustics loudspeaker chassis are called drivers) creates pressure waves (green) somewhere in the middle of the "con...

De draaggolf . Joachim's Ham-Radio and Radio-Frequency Blog (A Solderful of Secrets) - from Longwave to Microwaves. Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Finally: The PEx/Al/PEx Loop! Yeah, that was a good one today. I took a couple off work and finally got to build my long planned magnetic loop aerial made from the recently discovered light weight copper subsitute PEx/Al/PEx. Just to remind you, this means that 2 capacitors are in series, i.e. they don't add up their capacities, they do this instead:. Back to t...

De draaggolf . Joachim's Ham-Radio and Radio-Frequency Blog (A Solderful of Secrets) - from Longwave to Microwaves. Saturday, October 26, 2013. What is a QSO nowadays? Not sure, in particular when talking QRSS. The latest fashion seems to communicate via an online grabber. This this a QSO? I don't think so, for the following reasons:. Both stations have contact to the grabber, which is rather an automated SWL connected to the internet. The online grabber does not repeat a signal per se. 47 Amps Power...

De draaggolf . Joachim's Ham-Radio and Radio-Frequency Blog (A Solderful of Secrets) - from Longwave to Microwaves. Wednesday, January 29, 2014. Update: Flower Pot Heater. The last few days, I experimented a bit with the flower pot heater. actually, I turned the one heater into two! All experiments were done whilst my central heating was set to "frost protection". In the next iteration of experiments, I used only 2 pots, the smallest and the second to largest. Also, I reduced the amount of metal ...

De draaggolf . Joachim's Ham-Radio and Radio-Frequency Blog (A Solderful of Secrets) - from Longwave to Microwaves. Friday, February 14, 2014. By chance I came across another web-page sharing very useful information about the material, in particular when used for radio. Http:/ sivantoledotech.wordpress.com/2010/09/03/hello-world/. However, this post my be of interest anyways. Recently, my first ever LC-Television died on me. Of course, the device had to be source of parts. And it was! The sound of this TV was not bad, hence, I also took the 2 tiny 2" full range speakers out before I crapped the rest. March 3, 2014 at 1:21 AM. March 3, 2014 at 2:22 PM.

De draaggolf . Joachim's Ham-Radio and Radio-Frequency Blog (A Solderful of Secrets) - from Longwave to Microwaves. Sunday, March 9, 2014. PVC Pipe Dreams (audio). You have seen speaker enclosures I made from PVC plumbing pipes. For stuffing the pipes, I initially used heat pipe insulation (the grey stuff in the image below). It worked OK, at least to an extend I was surprised, concerning those tiny drivers. 05m of the insulation stuff. 1/4 sheet of rolled up cleaning cloth. Was the next experiment.

De draaggolf . Joachim's Ham-Radio and Radio-Frequency Blog (A Solderful of Secrets) - from Longwave to Microwaves. Sunday, July 12, 2015. Followers of my IT blog. Already are aware of the fact that I am fitting out a worker's van for camping and other spare time activities. Over the last years (maybe even decade) I was neglecting my radio hobby. The van is meant to be one of the remedies. It is presently arranged to survive a few days in it, however, the van still lacks radio equipment. BTW, the van...

De draaggolf . Joachim's Ham-Radio and Radio-Frequency Blog (A Solderful of Secrets) - from Longwave to Microwaves. Monday, March 17, 2014. More Pipiness in the Audio Department. More improvement to report on the PVC pipe speaker enclosures (Voigt pipes). Today I decided to stuff the upper pipe resonator. Stuffing reduces the velocity of sound due to increased density of the resonance volume. Such an increase of density lets the resonant volume appear larger to the sound-waves. The result was quite p...

De draaggolf . Joachim's Ham-Radio and Radio-Frequency Blog (A Solderful of Secrets) - from Longwave to Microwaves. Friday, August 23, 2013. The old phase shift question. Actually I am rather flattered by the fact that an experimental design, which I did a couple of years ago, still is under discussion. The good ole question about how much phase shift you need to run Polyakov mixers for I/Q software defined radio (SDR). Wednesday, August 14, 2013. 12m XTAL Controlled QRSS / WSPR / QRP / SDR.
