Mildly Melancholy: ebb and flow

http://mildlymelancholy.blogspot.com/2012/10/ebb-and-flow.html

I am not a teacher anymore, but I'm still an educator. Wednesday, October 17, 2012. My grandmother- my dad's mom- passed away this morning after a couple days in a coma. She was 95 years old. Mister M and I visited her the week after our wedding two summers ago. I'm sad that she's gone. But I know too that she's not suffering anymore, and that she certainly had a long and good life. The sadness is now with us who are left, to remember her and her spirit. My condolences. May her memory be a blessing.

Mildly Melancholy: careful what I wish for

http://mildlymelancholy.blogspot.com/2013/01/careful-what-i-wish-for.html

I am not a teacher anymore, but I'm still an educator. Friday, January 18, 2013. Careful what I wish for. When I started writing about pregnancy/baby stuff, I wished that I could share it with more people, or that more people would see it. Shameless, aren't I. But hey, what blogger doesn't want an audience? Isn't that the main purpose of blogging? Anyway, so I made that whole new blog. And then I shared it on facebook. And sure enough, there was my audience! Should I really include this part? But hey, I ...

Mildly Melancholy: thirty three

http://mildlymelancholy.blogspot.com/2012/11/thirty-three.html

I am not a teacher anymore, but I'm still an educator. Monday, November 05, 2012. On occasions like birthdays, it's always interesting to take a moment and contemplate and compare life with the previous one. Last November 1, I lived in Brooklyn and had been working as a 'consultant' for my company for a just over a year. I was working weekends shooting babies. I didn't really do much else. In January, I was hired full-time at my job. Finally! In May, we went to Central Europe for vacation. The time until...

Mildly Melancholy: a new beginning

http://mildlymelancholy.blogspot.com/2012/11/a-new-beginning.html

I am not a teacher anymore, but I'm still an educator. Wednesday, November 07, 2012. I'm enjoying keeping up with my blog again, since there is plenty going on (and will, for the foreseeable future! However, I'm really hesitant to share out this blog with friends and family.it's been host to so many ups and downs and all kinds of things. Isn't it funny that we feel freer to confess to an anonymous audience rather than people we know well? Http:/ wehavetwins.wordpress.com/. View my complete profile.

Mildly Melancholy: Back to School Season

http://mildlymelancholy.blogspot.com/2013/09/back-to-school-season.html

I am not a teacher anymore, but I'm still an educator. Monday, September 23, 2013. Back to School Season. This is my third year of not teaching. I don't know if I should feel bad about that or if I should congratulate myself. I successfully avoided all the school supply sales, because I still have an urge to buy things like boxes of pencils and piles of composition notebooks and reams of copy paper. But I no longer have students who can use them. And yet.this summer I almost applied for a teaching job.

4.5 Week Progress Reports Bring Out The Angry Parents! | Strange New Teacher

https://strangenewteacher.wordpress.com/2008/09/13/45-week-progress-reports-bring-out-the-angry-parents

September 13, 2008. 45 Week Progress Reports Bring Out The Angry Parents! 8212; strangenewteacher @ 2:29 pm. I survived my 5th week of teaching! I’m learning waaaaay more than I ever thought possible. Some days I love teaching, and there are a few days I question my carreer choice. I’m seriously hoping that’s normal for newbies. At that point, I shut down. I have been teaching for 4.5 weeks, but I’m supposed to already have the rest of the quarter planned out? Ummmm … because this work was completed.

when are we ever going to use this?: Phew

http://awhimsy.blogspot.com/2005/09/phew.html

When are we ever going to use this? The whole art of teaching is only the art of awakening the natural curiosity of young minds for the purpose of satisfying it afterwards." -Anatole France. Saturday, September 03, 2005. Just finished my first 4 days of preservice work. Since we moved to a new (to us) facility this year there has been a lot of unpacking and scrounging of materials. I am exhausted, but not overwhelmed. This is a good thing. I will write a more detailed report sometime this weekend.

15 Lessons I learned as a Substitute Teacher | Strange New Teacher

May 5, 2008. 15 Lessons I learned as a Substitute Teacher. 8212; strangenewteacher @ 4:12 pm. As a spankin’-new blogger looking to improve my blog, I have joined Joel’s Blog Revolution. Today’s assignment: use a comprehensive list when discussing great content. Here it goes. 1 Your classroom management skills are directly correlated to your students’ behavior when you’re out of the room. 3 Don’t assume you’re getting a seasoned sub. https://strangenewteacher.wordpress.com/2008/10/05/8th-week-reflection-the-class-that-just-doesnt-get-it

October 5, 2008. 8th week reflection: The class that just doesn’t get it. 8212; strangenewteacher @ 2:00 pm. I don’t know how it happened, but my students come into my classroom every day and get straight to work on their warmup. They are quiet and focused on the task. I hear Miss History next door yelling at her kids to sit down and be quiet, and I just want to hug mine for following my procedures. I am using Grammar With a Giggle. 9 week final exams are scheduled for next week, so I am finished teachin...

Ms M's Apples. The Great Return…Mostly Makes Me Want To Nap. Who Are. You? September 3, 2013 · 8:41 pm. This is a real thing. Some people I know don’t believe me, but it’s so real it’s almost painful. No matter where I am, or what else I’m doing, I’m almost always thinking about my students, or my curriculum, or my classroom organization. ALWAYS. It was so absurd this month that. I forgot to pay rent. Filed under secret lives of teachers. The Great Return…Mostly Makes Me Want To Nap. Who Are. You? Secret...

About Ms. H. October 17, 2011. This school year is kickin’ my arse in a big and major way. Thanks to budget cuts….we lost a conference period, and gained an extra class section. So now I’m up to 210 students in 7 90-minute classes with only 90 minutes of planning over the course of 2-days. THIS. SUCKS. From → 2009-10. Larr; Current State of Mind. The Verdict →. Leave one →. https://moldingyoungminds.wordpress.com/2010/08/22/and-so-begins-fall-2010

About Ms. H. And so begins…Fall 2010. August 22, 2010. It’s been a helluva summer around these parts, folks. So much so that words can’t describe how ready I am to get back into the classroom with my kiddos. (I am TIIiiiiiiiiiii-red of grown-ups! I’m teaching a full slate of English 4 classes….and since the curriculum is brand-new, the fact that I’m teaching the same grade level of kiddos is super-comforting. It will pretty much be the only thing that is remotely the same this year. New tile and carpet.

Ash Wednesday – Finding Ourselves in the Dust. February 5th, 2018 | 2 Comments. Will soon be upon us literally, if we attend a service with the imposition of ashes. Receiving the mixture of oil and ash in the shape of a cross on one’s forehead comes with the reminder to remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return. But in the dust we’re back where we came from, supported by our connection with the earth. The word humble has the same root as humus (Latin for soil) and human. In the hum...I usu...
