Built in 1892, the year Millay was born, its Victorian glories were removed by Millay to create a simple New England farmhouse. Today the house still holds all of her furniture, books and other possessions, many of which remain where they were on the day she died - October 19, 1950. This three-dimensional "blueprint" aids us in our current efforts to restore her home into a premier Historic House and Garden Museum. Steepletop is open. Tour schedules are below. Her Life at Steepletop. Millay and her husband Eugen. In 1925, Millay and her husband, Eugen Boissevain, a Dutch importer, purchased the property at Steepletop, a 19th-century farmhouse, in Austerlitz, New York. They spent the next 25 years creating both a peaceful place where Millay could write and a social gathering spot that their friends—writers, musicians, and others—could enjoy. Tuesday, June 24, 2014. Hike to Berlin Mountain. Berlin Mountain, at 2,818 feet above sea level, is the highest peak in the Taconic Mountain range and is the highest mountain in New York State not in the Catskills or Adirondacks. From the intersection of Route 22 and Route 2 in Petersburgh, drive 5-1/2 miles east over the Taconic Trail to the large parking area on the right. This is the same parking area used for the Hike to the Snow Hole. Much of the trail looks like this. Dickinson Hill Fire Tower.
