Wednesday, October 28, 2009. A couple of books about the sociocultural history of Indian Classical Music. Given my schedule lately, I am surprised myself that I am writing this blog post, but much to my own amazement I was able to grab a few minutes today! The last two books I read were both about Indian Classical Music. My mom got them when she came from India in August. They both have a lot to say about the sociocultural history of Indian Classical Music, besides focussing on specific artistes. The asp...

Sunday, February 15, 2009. Ghazal with live Percussion! I had presented my version of the famous Farida Khanum ghazal, Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo in an earlier post. But now I got to do it again - a better version , I think, with Tabla! Yup, my husband is learning to play the Tabla and he has accompanied me on this - our first jam session! We had fun doing this. I have removed the earlier mp3 since I think this turned out better anyways. I would appreciate your feedback! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

8220;If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear as it is - infinite”- William Blake. Tuesday, November 17, 2009. Me: (Ma picks up the phone in half a ring). Hello Ma, what are you doing? Ma: (speaks instantly and rather breathlessly). Ma, maaa, maaaaaaaa will you slow down please. I am not following you. What’s this about, which itinerary, who decided, where are we going? Uffff, see you don’t have time no? And where are we going? You think there is time for that…see on 5th we...

8220;If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear as it is - infinite”- William Blake. Thursday, October 21, 2010. Well, its just uncomfortable,. Bunch of strangers, who are not really strangers since they work at the same company as you and you often see them once in like 6 months maybe. They get into the elevator. You have to be nice to people, they work in the same building as you do and though you may never run into them again, you never know right? Then there are those who ought...

Perception: 2010 is gone? Already?

8220;If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear as it is - infinite”- William Blake. Thursday, January 13, 2011. 1 Earthquake devastates Haiti. Surprised at how many natural calamities strike earth each year, we are really testing the tolerance limit of our planet, aren’t we? It’s high time we drop some irrelevant research and invest in finding planets we can move people to, that would certainly make earth happy. 2 BP Oil Rig explodes off Louisiana gulf coast. Always wondered how p...

The Cords: March 2008

Wednesday, March 12, 2008. Homage : Pink Floyd. I am partially repeating this post from my other blog. Since it belongs here in the Music blog as well. This post is intended as a homage to Pink Floyd. It's my most cherished Pink Floyd song and everytime I hear it I quiver. Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun. Shine on you crazy diamond. Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky. Shine on you crazy diamond. Shine on you crazy diamond.

Cyber Diaries: October 2007

Of your thoughts, dedicated to you. Tuesday, October 16, 2007. We have heard often, on the one hand, the uncomfortable questions of the disillusioned: "What's the point of this life that is going to end one day? Why is life such an ephemera that confounds us? Etc, and on the other hand, fairy tales and mythological legends of certain blessed people who by their virtue and some good deed attain immortality. My question is, would you want to live forever? What is the picture you see when you imagine this?

Of your thoughts, dedicated to you. Monday, October 8, 2012. What is your position on Gay Marriage? I have always viewed myself as reasonably liberal. I have supported gay marriage. Once I even donated to ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) in support of gay marriage on the way to a lunch date, and felt good about the karma points I had earned. :-). Of several topics, was Gay Marriage. If that is not allowed, why is that not discrimination? And can it be arbitrary? And also, it is between. The next que...
