Mindo is a small town of about 3000 people. It is located in the northwest of Pichincha Province, 2 hours from Quito, by the new road, Calacali la Independencia. It is at 1224m. above sea level and the temperature is between 18 and 24 degrees centigrade. The annual precipitation is about 2500mm. Mindo won in 2000, 2006, 2007 and 2008, with more than 400 species of birds seen in 24 hours, out of a list of the 550 birds found in Mindo.
