Consciousness, sentience and other age-old questions… | Rae Else
https://raeelse.wordpress.com/2015/07/29/consciousness-sentience-and-other-age-old-questions
Consciousness, sentience and other age-old questions…. Lately, I’ve been getting really into watching a lot of films about artificial intelligence; mainly because there are so many good ones out there at the moment. I watched Ex Machina. Last night and what can I say, but quote the character, Caleb, “* * ing awesome! Does man have a right to create it? And the more complicated question – is gender attached to our consciousness? Also give the film. Ava, Ex Machina. Share on Facebook (Opens in new window).

Book Review: Smoke and Bone – The Grisha Series | Rae Else
https://raeelse.wordpress.com/2015/07/20/book-review-smoke-and-bone-the-grisha-series
Book Review: Smoke and Bone – The Grisha Series. Finished the first book in The Grisha series – Smoke and Bone. Although not a particular fan of the MC, Alina, who was too whiny and self-pitying for my liking (Think Fanny Price type from Mansfield Park), the world of Ravka was easy to sink into. In truth, it is the Darkling who steals the show. It is his complex, conflicted and disturbingly seductive character that you will find yourself falling for. Hunting Lila: Book Review | Rae Else

Hunting Lila: Book Review. Ok…remember I was branching out a bit – this one is a little bit more in my comfort zone though. It’s down as Action and Adventure in Amazon, but has the Supernatural slant – I guess we could label it as Supernatural Thriller or Suspense. But, there is a twist, which keeps things interesting, plenty of action and like I say, I kept reading to the end. For a holiday read or a light-hearted evening in – it works. The Devil on your Back… | Rae Else

The Devil on your Back…. Behemoth, one of the most diverting characters of Woland’s retinue. Image from readliterature.com. Singing that line a myriad of surreal images sparkle. Perhaps, none so amusing as those concerning Behemoth: an enormous, black, talking cat. From his first appearance when he hops on a tram and insists on paying his fare, to all his vodka drinking and gun wielding shenanigans, he is delightful! Back from the Dead…. Okay, it’s been a while, but I do feel like I’ve been temporarily departed from this world for the last couple of months. That’s because I’ve been redrafting and self-editing another version of Arete: Descendants. It’s finally done and after lots and lots of reading up on freelance editing companies, it’s been sent off to Bubblecow. Image from: http:/ londonbeep.com/nicknames-of-london-city. Vyleta opens the novel with a quote from Dickens that inspired the story. Rightly so, the...

Calling all immortals! | Rae Else
https://raeelse.wordpress.com/2015/07/31/calling-all-immortals
I’ve been meaning to do this post for a while. A future post will definitely be saved for the topic of an in-depth analysis of the glorious vampire! Perhaps also for the werewolf and witch. But for now, I wanted to speak about my reasons for loving the supernatural genre. I’ve heard lots of people who are into the genre say its appeal is in the magic and the mysticism. Yes. Some say its about escapism. Yes also. Edward Cullen in Twilight AKA Sparkles. Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window).

Suspension of Disbelief | Rae Else
https://raeelse.wordpress.com/2015/07/30/suspension-of-disbelief
A few months ago I did my own research into t. The face of immortality in The Age of Adaline. Elomeres and the aging process, linking recent DNA research with goings-on in my Urban Fantasy world, (with my sister’s help of course). A great Fantasy book that uses this device successfully is Deborah Harkness’ A Discovery of Witches. Have a read and enjoy how easily your disbelief falls by the way-side.
