Dollhouse escapes: September 2014
http://dollhouseescapes.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Making dollhouses, room boxes and miniatures for fun and relaxation. Saturday, 27 September 2014. Patience. and more patience. I was quite close in my estimate that it would take me four hours work on each window frame. I haven't timed every session, but it took me most of the morning to prime twelve windows. It's delicate work, and you don't want any paint blobs. I can only do this outdoors because the primer smells, so I hurried this morning while it was sunny. Posted by Maria Nikolajeva. The upper hal...

Dollhouse escapes: February 2015
http://dollhouseescapes.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Making dollhouses, room boxes and miniatures for fun and relaxation. Sunday, 22 February 2015. Today is the great break-through in my lighting attempts. I have given up on conventional lights. Even though the effect was good; I just don't have the patience (and my sight is getting poor). So battery lights is a solution. After trial and error and trial and error I have finally plucked my courage and drilled holes in the roof. And it works just great. I will later protect wires with heavy-duty tape and pos...

Dollhouse escapes: Imaginative use of full-size wallpaper
http://dollhouseescapes.blogspot.com/2015/07/imaginative-use-of-full-size-wallpaper.html
Making dollhouses, room boxes and miniatures for fun and relaxation. Thursday, 9 July 2015. Imaginative use of full-size wallpaper. I went to get more paint the other day and took home samples of embossed wallpaper. I have already used it for various purposes, from fireplaces. To wall panels. This time I needed it to make mouldings on the inside of the fronts. I wanted paper rather than real mouldings so that the front doesn't get too heavy. And frankly, it's much easier. The right front. Thorne Miniatur...

Dollhouse escapes: June 2015
http://dollhouseescapes.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Making dollhouses, room boxes and miniatures for fun and relaxation. Monday, 29 June 2015. My impulsive work on the fronts. Had unexpected consequences. I liked the colour scheme on the left-hand front so without any further considerations I painted and papered the inside. I am very happy with this, although I still need to add fake mouldings. I will need to visit the DIY store and pinch some 1:1 embossed wallpaper. But you may have noticed something. The windows are in. And the doors! I said then that i...

Dollhouse escapes: December 2014
http://dollhouseescapes.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Making dollhouses, room boxes and miniatures for fun and relaxation. Tuesday, 30 December 2014. I knew that it would make an excellent chandelier. I had a similar one. In my old Victorian house (it will now move to Womble Hall). I didn't take step-by-step pictures because it was just a hugely tedious job of fixing the chains, that, by the way, came from one of my treasure chests. Posted by Maria Nikolajeva. Wednesday, 24 December 2014. Was until I was building Helen Hall. And had to buy some spare parts&...

Dollhouse escapes: Alice in Wonderland room box
http://dollhouseescapes.blogspot.com/2015/07/alice-in-wonderland-room-box.html
Making dollhouses, room boxes and miniatures for fun and relaxation. Tuesday, 28 July 2015. Alice in Wonderland room box. I have never made room boxes based on literature (except Lord Asriel's study. And it was pure imagination since it is not described in the novel). Since I am a children's literature scholar it may seem natural to make scenes from children's books, but for some reason I don't find it tempting, maybe because it's too obvious or too limiting or whatever. Anyway, I agreed to do this works...

Dollhouse escapes: More door knobs
http://dollhouseescapes.blogspot.com/2015/08/more-door-knobs.html
Making dollhouses, room boxes and miniatures for fun and relaxation. Tuesday, 4 August 2015. I have shown how I made door knobs. In the basement. I could have easily made similar knobs for all doors, but there isn't much challenge in this. I have made some knobs from paper clips and other stuff, but I have been waiting for something special to come my way. And it has. On today's round of charity shops I bought this bracelet for 50p. Posted by Maria Nikolajeva. Kitty And Kat Miniatures. They look great x.

Dollhouse escapes: April 2015
http://dollhouseescapes.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Making dollhouses, room boxes and miniatures for fun and relaxation. Sunday, 26 April 2015. Further playing with lights. I have become obsessed with tea lights. After I made the flickering fires. I bought a set of eight tea lights that are better than the ones I got from Poundland, because they are easier to switch on: just turn the base. They are also smaller. And they don't flicker. I don't want flickering light in my table and ceiling lamps. For the first, I took a miniature copper candlestick (made f...

Dollhouse escapes: Hutch cabinet
http://dollhouseescapes.blogspot.com/2015/07/hutch-cabinet.html
Making dollhouses, room boxes and miniatures for fun and relaxation. Thursday, 2 July 2015. I have finished another Chippendale piece from my latest bargain. A hutch cabinet. I have stated repeatedly how much you learn from miniature-making. How else would I know what hutch. The drawer and the doors can obviously be opened. I had a visitor recently who was utterly fascinated by my rear corridors. She was a theatre person! Posted by Maria Nikolajeva. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Welcome to my blog!
