Ministry2Kenya: "Loving my Neighbor": Remembering missionary pioneer, Elisabeth Elliot (1926-2015)
http://ministry2kenya.blogspot.com/2015/06/remembering-missionary-pioneer.html
Remembering missionary pioneer, Elisabeth Elliot (1926-2015). One of the most influential Christian women of the 20th century, Elisabeth Elliot, died this week after a long battle with dementia. Elliot, the Christian author and speaker whose husband, Jim, was killed during their short-lived but legendary missionary work among unreached tribes in eastern Ecuador in the 1950s, passed away Sunday at 88, according to reports. Years ago, when I heard Elisabeth Elliot speak in Omaha, Nebraska, I was absolutely...

What I learned living cross-culturally as a Christian, written by Cindy Brandt. One of my favorite quotes regarding living cross-culturally is this one by Duane Elmer:. Among the hardest tasks in life is to divest (rid or strip) ourselves of the culture we wear so comfortably.". I think the following piece, written by Cindy Brandt, does a good job examining this struggle:. What I learned living cross culturally as a Christian. What I learned living cross culturally as a Christian. As long as we believe w...

Ministry2Kenya: "Loving my Neighbor": Seeing God’s glory; touched by his presence
http://ministry2kenya.blogspot.com/2015/05/seeing-gods-glory-touched-by-his.html
Seeing God’s glory; touched by his presence. Jesus’ solitary time with his Father was more important than his ministry to others. In fact, his ministry was an overflow of his time with his Father. If Jesus practiced the discipline of stepping away from the noise and the crowds, then I must also do so. Riveted by the marvel of its beauty, I could not take my eyes off of that particular cloud. It was as if a heavenly spotlight gloriously beamed down on it. God spoke to me through its stunning isola...I had...

Rondo Retreat and Kakamega Rainforest - Two wonderful days of rest and relaxation. A quiet secluded life in the country,. With the possibility of being useful to people to whom it is easy to do good,. And who are not accustomed to have it done to them;. Then work which one hopes may be of some use;. Then rest, nature, books, music, love for one's neighbor -. Such is my idea of happiness. Walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. Live in each season as it passes;. We spent lots of time in Kaka...

Trip to the coast - A long train ride home. This was my second time to take a train to or from the coast. The first time it took 20 hours; this time 29! The views outside the windows are stunning. These Baobab trees are growing in a Sisal plantation. Hannah and I spent two hours in the cab with Edward, the engineer. We had a 'sundowner' glass of wine while we watched this beautiful sunset. You can see photos from my first train ride, with Ryan, by clicking here. Trip to the coast - Diani Beach. I've alwa...

6 days, 4 lads - Camping at Olorgesailie in Maasailand, day two. 100 years from now, it won’t matter what my bank account was,. The sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove. But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child. Forest E. Whitcraft. Enjoying a few moments of solitude before the boys wake up. The guys spent six days with me during their August school holiday. We had a wonderful time together! One of the highlights was camping at Olorgesailie. With an an...

Ministry2Kenya: "Loving my Neighbor": Who is Deb Smith, the missionary?
http://ministry2kenya.blogspot.com/2015/06/who-is-deb-smith-missionary.html
Who is Deb Smith, the missionary? God dramatically interrupted my life in 2001. I was so riveted during a sermon that I stood up throughout its duration. The very next day I applied for a passport. Through a series of other rapidly unfolding events, God clearly revealed that he was sending me to Kenya, East Africa to serve him. I am now in my 14th year there. I, myself, become a single mom after an unwanted divorce in 1986. God’s plan in sending me to Kenya is a perfect example of 2 Corinthians...Who is ...

Christmas road-trip: Hanging out in Kisumu. At an area on Lake Victoria known as Tilapia Beach (near downtown Kisumu), a person can enjoy a meal of freshly-caught fish from one of numerous crudely built cafés or buy cheap trinkets from roaming hawkers. You can also have your car washed - right. In the lake. I'm not so sure, though, about the environmental impact of driving the cars and even large trucks right into the water. Judging by his wobbly legs, this little one must have been only a day or two old.

A Special Birth on Thanksgiving Day - Thursday, November 25, 2004. A 10-year old story from my archives on this, another Thanksgiving. 8220;The man or woman who is ready for God and His work is the one who carries off the prize when the summons comes. Readiness for God means that we are ready to do the tiniest little thing or the great big thing, it makes no difference. We have no choice in what we want to do; whatever God’s program may be, we are there, ready. After spending the night in Eldoret, I purc...

Ministry2Kenya: "Loving my Neighbor": God-driven loss — those who are left behind (by Joshua S. Hill)
http://ministry2kenya.blogspot.com/2015/06/god-driven-loss-those-who-are-left.html
God-driven loss — those who are left behind (by Joshua S. Hill). In my life I have lost all four of my grandparents, my youth, a pair of glasses, several cats that meant the world to me, and my father to divorce. Each loss has affected me in different ways. However, with the exception of Tabby (my cat who lived to be 14), nothing is as hard as losing my Mum to the missions field. The Bible is full of global-worker verses that are intended to ease the pain of leaving and this separation:. These verses are...
