The pivotal factor in the future of health and healthcare is the coming of genomic medicine (see NY Times Sunday Magazine last week, the cover story about the pediatrician practicing genomically informed medicine with the Amish and the Mennonites). And also the turning on and off of genes by environment, both internal and external, over the course of life. The treatments aren't as much genetic tinkering as genetic bypassing.
