We are used to encountering rough tracks and challenging river crossings but it is always worth the effort! The knowledge of the Miriwoong elders lives in their memories and in the country they relate to. Since it is hard to revive these memories while sitting in an office building, we frequently go out bush in order to immerse ourselves in the views, sounds, and smells of our country. It is so much easier to remember how things were done in the old days when you are in the right environment.

By the way, did you know that the word Kununurra does not mean Meeting of big waters? It is in fact one of the most widespread myths to lack any linguistic basis. The name is actually derived from the Miriwoong word. Which means ‘river’ a perfect name for this place by the Ord River. Unfortunately nobody asked the Miriwoong people when they put the wrong meaning into guide books and promotional materials.
