Life After School: Yuki Bar 24 Hour AR
http://stephaniemarion.blogspot.com/2011/05/yuki-bar-24-hour-ar.html
Tuesday, May 3, 2011. Yuki Bar 24 Hour AR. This past weekend Marsha Hamilton and Stephanie Briggs attacked the Yuki-Bar race, put on by the Bushwack folks in the Pilot Mountain/Hanging Rock state park area of NC. The race started Friday night at 7pm and I'd never done a 24 hour race w/ a nighttime start. Basically, it meant that you had to scramble more to get your gear together quicker, but we didn't have to find a place to sleep on Friday night . Sweet! The paddle was uneventful, but just fast and rock...

life, liberty, and the pursuit of purpose: June 2014
http://dgalvan.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of purpose. Do your best at all you do, and thus have no regrets. Wednesday, June 04, 2014. Memory, Fatherhood, and roller coasters. So Magic Mountain is going to shut down the Colossus roller coaster this summer. Probably in preparation to demolish and replace it with a fancy new coaster. Colossus holds sentimental value for me. I rode it as my first "big" roller coaster when I was 10 years old, with my dad. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I am a space scientist and policy res...

life, liberty, and the pursuit of purpose: November 2008

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of purpose. Do your best at all you do, and thus have no regrets. Sunday, November 30, 2008. Shuttle Landed at Edwards! It was unmistakable, and much louder than I had been expecting! I walked down the hall to see if my friend had heard it from his office, but he wasn't there. I then thought to call my friend Phil, who lives in Downey to the southeast. He had the same idea, apparently, as my phone was ringing and I answered to hear his voice: "My house just shook! And with ...

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of purpose. Do your best at all you do, and thus have no regrets. Saturday, June 28, 2008. The "Midway Bear" depicted above in the statue that greets guests of the resort, was actually a guy who would dress up as a bear and play the accordian at town parades to entertain the children. That was a disappointingly reasonable story for a statue with such outlandish comic potential, I thought. Oh well. Saturday, June 07, 2008. Science and the Manned Space Program. When I came to...

Life After School: Siege on Ft. Yargo
http://stephaniemarion.blogspot.com/2013/06/siege-on-ft-yargo.html
Wednesday, June 5, 2013. Siege on Ft. Yargo. A kick-ass, fun race put on by the Trailblazer Adventure Racing Club. Low entry fees, beginner friendly (6 hours), great venue with fun trails. If you are thinking about trying an AR, do this race! Ok, done with the preaching. Jenn and I raced as 2 females. Several AR pals were there volunteering or racing and it was a good atmosphere. Actually, yes, that is us in the back of the pack. Here's the thing about paddling. We suck at it. OK, we probably aren't that...

Life After School: December 2012
http://stephaniemarion.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 11, 2012. The race worked like this: 30 checkpoints, split into the following legs or segments:. We finally got a reprieve from the climbing with a bit of fun downhill single-track. Yay! Of teams wound up just going across the out-of-bounds Kawana area to get out of there. Here, we all debated what to do next, but we ate a few grilled cheese sandwiches provided by the volunteers (mad props for that! And I was still jealous! Here the volunteers had chicken soup for us! We transitioned to...

Life After School: January 2012
http://stephaniemarion.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 9, 2012. I haven't written in a while because my husband, Kurt, died in July. I wish it weren't true. Nothing can describe what this is like, but if you want to know you can ask me and I"ll do my best. Here, of course I usually talk about running and riding bikes and swimming and other fun stuff. So I'm going to continue to do that, but I couldn't ignore that this has happened. Since I wrote my stats up last year. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). After 22 years of school, I'm finished!

Life After School: October 2013
http://stephaniemarion.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, October 9, 2013. I've been on a little hiatus this summer from my sporty blogging etc because of two things. The first is a hip injury that flared up in July and has left me unable to run or do pretty much anything except for ride my bike. The second was a crazy work/vacation trip that kept expanding and really wrecked my training. After Hawaii, work got ridiculously busy and kept me in California basically until last week. I got sick, of course, which stunk, but the work was pretty fun, a...
