Thursday, March 25, 2010. Schultz, K. T. (2009). Soft drinks, mind reading, and number theory. Mathematics Teacher. I agree that learning of proofs as a source to gain understanding is very important and useful. The students curiosity seemed to really motivate them to find the answer they were looking for. I am very impressed with Schultz ability to recognize a golden opportunity to get a confusing concept through to his students and to pull through. Thursday, March 18, 2010. mathletics: January 2010

http://www.missabbeylearnstoteach.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 25, 2010. This is, absolutely, still applicable for math teachers today. Students must be taught not only the rules but why they are necessary to come to the correct solution of a problem. Like we read in Skemp's article, relational understanding is easier to remember because it should make sense. If Benny would have had a teacher that taught him the correct rules and why they work, he would have been much happier mathlete! Thursday, January 14, 2010. Monday, January 4, 2010.

Monday, January 4, 2010. Math is finding solutions to problems. I learn math best by trying to solve problem and then practicing a lot once I know the correct method. I know this because when I try to solve an equation on my own, even if I don't succeed and have to ask someone, I understand the correct method. When the material given to me without the struggle, I have a harder time understand why and how. January 6, 2010 at 3:42 PM. I very much agree with your idea of what is detrimental. I feel long...

Thursday, January 14, 2010. January 15, 2010 at 10:11 PM. I liked the way you organized your paragraph and brought in both the teacher and the student perspective. I thought the way you expressed the ideas in this paragraph was very clear and easy to follow. I also liked how you said relational includes everything instrumental and then some. This made it very clear to me how the two types of understandings were related. January 19, 2010 at 7:28 PM. January 20, 2010 at 6:42 AM. January 20, 2010 at 8:38 AM.

Monday, January 25, 2010. Entrata tre del blog. This study is not just relevant in showing that IPI mathematics is not the best way to teach children this subject. Rather, it shows the important role a teacher plays in a child's education. This is because once something is learned, it is difficult to change what ever it may be in the mind of the one who learned it. This is why what Erlwanger emphasized is important to us today. In von Glaserfeld's paper "Learning as a Constructive Activity" he defines and explains in detail his thoughts and meanings to the term "constructive knowledge". The key word of this is constructive. He does not believe that people. Take in what they hear. Rather, when learning, humans filter things through their mind and use their own experiences to make sense of things. They. Thursday, April 4, 2013. A Birth Story. Sort of. A hearty welcome to the newest member of the Mann family, Reece. As a new family member, I thought it might be appropriate to share her (sort of) birth story. So there I was with no coop, no food and ONE full-grown chicken. Not exactly how I imagined this scenario go down in my head, but hey, the end result is (sort of) the same, right? So we got a make-shift pen together and I ran to Cal-Ranch for some feed. Matt: What are we going to do with the eggs?
