Cross-Disciplinary Research in Social Sciences. Monday, June 29, 2015. Science boffins to philosopher kings: is the rule of science a good thing? Maciej Pletnia 2014,. Asian Identity: Regional Integration and Collective Memory of the Pacific War in Contemporary Japanese Society. Highly learned and esteemed. Generals, believe they should. Arrival! | Bolga Blog-a!
https://bolgabloga.wordpress.com/2012/05/13/arrival
May 13, 2012. Nothing beats a friendly face on arrival at an airport in a new country. And there are few faces friendlier than Ernest’s! As I was taking an internal flight the next day Ernest and his wife Monica, who I was very excited to meet for the first time, had kindly offered me a bed for the night at their home in Accra. They collected me from the airport, an hour after meeting another SOAS alumni, Umo! The SOAS development world is small! One landmark however, was impossible to miss! We arrived i...

Politics, Partnerships and Petroleum | Bolga Blog-a!
https://bolgabloga.wordpress.com/2013/03/28/politics-partnerships-and-petroleum
March 28, 2013. Politics, Partnerships and Petroleum. In the rural communities I have visited around Bolgatanga, a common complaint from people living there was that having eeked a harvest from scarcely available, infertile and un-irrigated land, they struggle to get any surplus to market due to insufficient or non-existent public transport or poorly maintained roads which disintegrate during the rainy season. These same communities are surrounded by shea nut trees. And for development projects, partners...

Collecting data | Bolga Blog-a!
https://bolgabloga.wordpress.com/2013/02/06/collecting-data
February 6, 2013. I have now been back in Bolga for three weeks, and can explain a little about what I have been doing at TradeAID, the NGO I am working for. My time has mostly been taken up by the collection of data. A focus group interview at Agosi. Godwin collecting baseline data at Vea. A focus group at Kotintabig. A focus group at Agosi. TradeAID helps to alleviate these problems through the provision of small loans and we hope that with the establishment of an enterprise to buy the produce at the f...

May 28, 2012. Out and about with TradeAID. I recently took part in some participatory development . This is development jargon for consultation, the idea being that if you want to give money to people, you should ask them how it should be spent, instead of making a decision from London/Washington etc. Ghana Social Opportunities Project workshop. World Bank rep. and his dried mango from Japan. URA is a public radio station owned and run by the state broadcaster the Ghanian Broadcasting Corporation. From v...

Bolga by bike | Bolga Blog-a!
https://bolgabloga.wordpress.com/2012/06/08/bolga-by-bike
June 8, 2012. Not only will they balance themselves and the bike over rocks or through soft sand, but also heavy loads of anything from full petrol cans, to huge sacks of charcoal to a couple of goats. Road through the outskirts of town. On the busiest main road which bypasses the centre of Bolga is a cycle lane! Well, it’s not exclusively for cyclists, it’s also for pedestrians, but I’m happy to be able to keep out of the way of the traffic. Lunch with some VSO volunteers. 8221; and “goodbye”...

Cross-Disciplinary Research in Social Sciences: March 2015
http://cross-disciplinary-research.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Cross-Disciplinary Research in Social Sciences. Wednesday, March 25, 2015. The predicament of identity: to join or not to join them. Saturday, March 21, 2015. Thursday, March 19, 2015. Is there something behind academic verbosity. The vapid, self-indulgent verbosity of the latter-day academia has become proverbial. Clever jibes from inside the ivory tower like the infamous Postmodernism Generator. Make a nice exposé of the likes of Homi Bhabha's 90-minute projectile verbal vomit. The mythopoetical totali...
