http://www.mississippiriverchronicles.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, May 13, 2012. 8220; Everything is blooming. Most recklessly; if it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night. Rainer Maria Rilke quotes. Dedicated to my daughter Erin and my step daughter Kimberly. The picture above and below are from my Flowering Crab Apple tree. Links to this post. Mississippi River Chronicles: February 2013

Saturday, February 16, 2013. Nothing Burns like the cold". The color of springtime is in the flowers; the color of winter is in the imagination. Terri Guillemets. Only a couple of the pictures, in this blog were taken on the trail. Not much walking this winter. It has been so cold and- - - - “Nothing burns like the cold.”. George R.R. Martin. A Game of Thrones. The Red Squirrel. I'm afraid I'm beginning to like this rodent. Yup. They have a great personalilty. The fox hole has some activity. OK, I lied!

Sunday, February 19, 2012. Birds are passing through, the fox is pregnant, the eagles are nesting and the chickadees are singing the fee beee songs. Spring you say. Woodpeckers, I think the downy or maybe the hairy, are busy making their shrill calls and extremely interesting drumming sound. Today the pileated woodpecker was trying to out drum the hairy or downy woodpecker. Can't be done. Yes, yet another picture of a chickadee. Not sure if this is a female pine grosbeak. I just love taking pictures of w...

Mississippi River Chronicles: December 2011

http://www.mississippiriverchronicles.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 21, 2011. It has often been said that the greatest joy tends to follow deep sorrow. What is so wonderful about the winter solstice is that once we are past that moment of time we can look forward to brighter skies.". Winter Solstice and still no snow. But, you don't need much snow to get "snow art". The fat muskrat and his shadow. I have been known to feed chickadees sunflower seeds, they have been known to hide their seeds in the pine cone. So beautiful in black and white.

Mississippi River Chronicles: January 2012

http://www.mississippiriverchronicles.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 8, 2012. January 7, 2012. The trail still has it's very challenging spots. Deep snow and slippery. Walk carefully. Many times during my walk a song will come to me. Most of the time it will be a silly song. But today it was the Phantom of the Opera. So over and over again I was singing, inside my mind. Night-time sharpens, heightens each sensation . Darkness stirs and wakes imagination . Silently the senses abandon thier defences . Slowly, gently night unfurls its splendour . You alone ca...

petals and thistles: Wow!

http://petalsandthistles.blogspot.com/2011/10/wow.html

Ramblings along the road of life. Saturday, October 1. That's the word that comes to mind when you go outside right now. Wow! Last night was a perfect evening for a walk at Lake Bemidji State Park. Those lights across the lake in the photo below are the football stadium where the Bemidji Lumberjacks were playing their Homecoming game- they won! We thought about going to the game but I'm glad we went for a walk instead! October 1, 2011 at 1:37 PM. Your photos are stunning! October 6, 2011 at 5:13 PM.

Ramblings along the road of life. Monday, August 22. I think that is what our kids are yelling lately, at least to themselves. But for me it's more like SAAAAAAAADNEEEEEEESS! Letting go of your kids is one of those thistles in life that ya gotta do but gosh it is painful, mixed in with exciting, and a roller coaster of emotions for this momma. Last week Leanne passed her driver's test. Here she is- one happy girl! I made sure he had a photo of us so he doesn't forget his family :). Nevermind that he's on...

Ramblings along the road of life. Saturday, April 17. Well, I did it. I put away my turtlenecks. I know. I know what you are thinking.it's a bit early isn't it? After all, it's only April 17th. Well, what can I say, I am a risk-taker! I still have all my scarves out, however, just in case my neck complains too much. So here's the extent of my "spring cleaning" so far. It feels good, doesn't it? And here's the bags of clothes that are going somewhere else to take up space.yah hoo! Links to this post.

Ramblings along the road of life. Thursday, September 29. Most of the Oakes bunch gathered in Bemidji on the weekend of July 4th. Okay, so I am a little slow in posting. I would have sooner but I lost all but 2 of my photos of the whole weekend! Darn it). I don't know how- they disappeared out of My Pictures folder and before I realized it I had erased my SD camera card to make more room on it! Drat) It was one of those very thistley moments. Grrrr. Ramblings along the road of life. Saturday, October 23. Well, I got out my turtlenecks. It's time. The neighbors harvested the corn field. Now I feel rather exposed on the south side and it sends a shiver. But it is still warmer than usual and I am not complaining. Cut down some dead trees for wood for the sauna. And Landon had a big bonfire with some friends. My favorite shrubs are the barberry bushes with their. Variegated colors and bright red berries in the fall. So cool! It was getting dark on us.
