Wildlife Mississippi has seven wetlands and stream mitigation sites in Mississippi. Three sites, Buttahatchie River Mitigation Bank-Mississippi Phase I, and Pearl River Valley Mitigation Bank and Bayou Pierre Mitigation Bank, are commercial banks and are currently offering credits. Another bank, Buttahatchie River-MDOT, offers credits to the Mississippi Department of Transportation. Three other sites are in various stages of government approval, and credits will be offered after full approval.

Wildlife Mississippi became involved in wetland and stream mitigation because the high cost of many mitigation banks was hampering economic growth of the state. STREAM AND WETLAND CREDITS. INDIVIDUAL (PERMITTEE-RESPONSIBLE) AND SPECIALIZED MITIGATION PROJECTS. Each mitigation bank operated by Wildlife Mississippi has an established service area. These areas can be an entire river basin or one or more parts of a basin, delineated by eight-digit hydrologic units. Wildlife Mississippi has mitigation banks in most of the state’s major river basins. For impacts beyond the designated service area may be approved by regulators, in cases where they determine it to be practicable and environmentally desirable.
