BigTime Literacy: October 2014
http://www.bigtimeliteracy.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Windy City Literacy Coach. Monday, October 27, 2014. I've been using Jan Richardson's The Next Steps in Guided Reading. This school year to make my guided reading lessons even better! It's been about 4 or 5 weeks that I've been teaching a group of second graders. Their Instructional Reading level is G-H, so we're using the Early Lesson Plan. The following is what is involved. First, students in the class I teach each have their own book bin, which includes their Reader's Notebook and the following:.

Soapbox Stories: Shattered
http://therussfam.blogspot.com/2013/05/shattered.html
Making our little stories public. Monday, May 27, 2013. Have you ever had a broken heart? I have a tender heart, so my heart often breaks. It breaks over all the injustice in the world, it breaks when someone I love is hurting, it breaks when I have hurt someone. My heart even breaks when I watch the Sarah Mclachlan commercials of abused pets that need to be adopted. Has your heart ever been shattered? When you love as God has loved us. it's not even a question. Im incredibly proud to call you a friend&#...

I am kinda missing the snow, but definitely not a fan of this cold weather we have going on! Anyways, excited for my 18th Currently with Farley. It's almost been two years doing this link-up with her and I LOVE it! Farley - you're awesome, thanks for getting us all together every month! If you're new to BigTime Literacy, I'd love to find some new bloggers to connect with!

BigTime Literacy: july in review
http://www.bigtimeliteracy.com/2015/07/july-in-review.html
Windy City Literacy Coach. Friday, July 31, 2015. I had such a great July! This challenge, of course, was part of the reason why. What I love about blogging are the connections we can make with one another. It's so nice to have friends in the blogosphere and also when people I know in real life write, too! But then there were some great posts, too. I wrote poetry and liked how it turned out, and I'm most proud of my post There's No App for That. I learned lots, too! We were talking about how we would des...

BigTime Literacy: currently august
http://www.bigtimeliteracy.com/2015/08/currently-august.html
Windy City Literacy Coach. Sunday, August 2, 2015. I'm on vacation and was trying to unplug, but no such luck. I've been better though, just taking some morning time with my online world and then living in books and notebooks most of the rest of the day! So, without waiting anymore, let's get on with Currently. Listening to the waves. Thinking about Block Scheduling. I've been reading Atwell's third edition of In the Middle. Can't think of anything at the moment, and I'll take it! I know you're going to ...

BigTime Literacy: there's no app for that
http://www.bigtimeliteracy.com/2015/07/theres-no-app-for-that.html
Windy City Literacy Coach. Thursday, July 16, 2015. There's no app for that. I was surfing my blog feed today and ran across a post, Motivate your kids to write with this app! Yesterday I saw a post about math Pinterest Fails - you know, those quick acronyms and tricks math teachers use to get kids to remember order of operations or division steps? If you're a teacher and you're really. Interested in getting your kids to love to write and to deeply. I'm a writer, so let's go there. It takes a writer.

BigTime Literacy: May 2015
http://www.bigtimeliteracy.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Windy City Literacy Coach. Thursday, May 28, 2015. On your mark book study, session 3. Hi again, and welcome to the last post for the book study! Really embarrassed. Because I did a lot of the bad stuff mentioned in regards to grading from Chapter 8. The stuff that created compliance with kids? Yep, totally did that when I taught middle school. I'm going to tell you all about it, but it's because I read this book about being vulnerable (I'm actually holding a book study. With my policies. This policy...

Teaching and Learning: March 2016
http://teachingandlearning-carr.blogspot.com/2016_03_01_archive.html
Learning to Teach and Teaching to Learn. Thursday, March 31, 2016. Day 31: Final Slice. Today is the final day of the 2016 Slice of Life Challenge. Once again, I met my goal of posting every day. I did have one day posting after the midnight deadline, but it was more important to me that I wrote and not necessarily that I was able to make it before 12:00 am. I'm going to try to write on my blog more frequently through the year and not just dust it off for the SOL challenge each year. But, I think I s...
