Kyoto – out and about – everittadventures
https://everittadventures.wordpress.com/2015/05/26/kyoto-out-and-about
May 26, 2015. Kyoto – out and about. We made several day trips during our stay in Osaka – 3 of which were to Kyoto…. The Fushiminari shirine (the fox shrine) is famous for its trails that are enclosed by hundreds of orange Tori gates. We wandered through those and then through a scenic path to the Kiyomizu-dera shrine (water temple) that was much less busy than in golden week! This time we went inside, visited the temple complex and walked blind between the ‘love stones’ (successfully!

July 23, 2015. July 23, 2015. To those of you I haven’t told yet, I now have a job lined up in England! Very exciting, but not without its dramas – BIG dramas! So rather than ranting about it on Facebook, I’ll write a nice concise summary here, and leave it at that! So on the day of the interview our group got up super early (see Nomad post) and set off for the border. After many delays (TIA! Such a relief to be able to tell the group they hadn’t got up at 3:30am for nothing🙂 Thanks guys! Fill in your d...

Koyasan – everittadventures
https://everittadventures.wordpress.com/2015/05/26/koyasan
May 26, 2015. May 26, 2015. We spent Eesh’s birthday at a mountain-top Buddhist town called Koyasan. Mount Koya is the sacred center of ‘Shingon Buddhism’. Brought to Japan in 804 from China (where Shingon Buddhism originated from). The mountain itself is a 900-meter high plateau, surrounded by eight peaks (which are are thought to represent the eight petals of a lotus flower an important symbol in Buddhism). The cable car up to Koyasan. Outside our temple stay. Around our temple-stay grounds…. The littl...

Kumano Kodo hike and the Cave Onsens – everittadventures
https://everittadventures.wordpress.com/2015/05/24/kumano-kodo
May 24, 2015. May 26, 2015. Kumano Kodo hike and the Cave Onsens. Kumano Kodo: Japan’s ancient pilgrimage route. A real highlight for us so far has been hiking the Kumano Kodo. Celia Jason had done the same trek this time last year and were instrumental in organizing it for it for us certainly not the easiest thing to do! The hike was beautiful and varied, and had lots of little shrines along the way, commemorating old worship sites. What we did…. Hiked another 10km to Chikatsuyu-oji. But she certainly d...

May 12, 2015. May 26, 2015. Nara…. Fun Facts! Less than an hour by train from Osaka. Japan’s first official capital. Home to ‘The Great Buddha’ (Daibutsu), which is housed in an equally impressive wooden temple (todai-ji) within a park filled with smaller shrines, ‘halls’, and deer! Todai-ji is the worlds’ largest wooden building and has been rebuilt twice (most recently in 1709). Daibutsu is one of the worlds largest bronze figures. Originally cast in 746. Beautiful structured and manicured gardens:.

Mt Fuji – everittadventures
https://everittadventures.wordpress.com/2015/05/26/mt-fuji
May 26, 2015. May 26, 2015. We only spent one night here in the 5 lakes regions, overlooking Mt Fuji. It was absolutely stunning and we’d love to come back and spend longer exploring and relaxing. Waking up just before 5am to catch an almost clear view of the mountain was totally worth it…. The view from our hotel room at 5am. The view a bit later in the morning. The view from our hotel room. Later in the day – the view from an observation deck…. We also managed to fit in a tour of a sake brewery amazing!
