A year in books. WHERE ARE WE NOW? October 7, 2014. What you allow, you encourage. This is the Kwang Si waterfall in Luang Prabang, we venture here to swim in the sapphire blue pools and sun bathe by the banks! But doh, this is the monsoon season and the falls prove to be an unaccommodating host! Before we leave the falls, and with the cash we saved on our cheap hostel, I buy a SAVE THE BEARS t-shirt, a great cause, a good, albeit touristy, experience. October 8, 2014. Well said Em, well said. Your picni...

A year in books. WHERE ARE WE NOW? September 27, 2014. Following the Mekong trash trail. We have crossed the boarder into Lao, and are floating down the Mekong river on a slow boat. Children are central to life, this observation is made quickly, they are always in shot, smiling, waving and bouncing around on the river bank. Unfortunately, another familiar sight is rubbish. Plastic bags full of trash, plastic bottles, shoes, a mattress – and that’s just the buoyant stuff! Lao to construct dam amid protests.

A year in books. WHERE ARE WE NOW? January 4, 2015. Angkor Wat. Have we missed the magic? But it’s not too late. We quickly learn that with a little cunning and a timing strategy, Angkor Wat can be revealed in solitude, just us, the jungle and the ghosts. We feel the magic at Ta Prohm, which is the location in the film Tomb Raider. After Anthony sweet-talks the security guard into letting us through after last entry, we are left alone in the temple. Cambodia. The end of Freedom | Kings of everywhere
http://www.kingsofeverywhere.com/the-day-freedom-died
A year in books. WHERE ARE WE NOW? November 20, 2014. Cambodia. The end of Freedom. The Khmer Rouge killed an estimated two million Cambodians, almost a fourth of the country’s population, including Bou’s family. Bou’s life was spared due to his talent as a painter and more importantly his ability to draw portraits of the Khmer Rouge leader Pol Pot. However, like 12,000 other prisoners he still endured hours of torture and interrogation. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Your email address will not be published.
