Click on images for full size. How About Those Leafs! I'm serious about compost. At the rear corner is the start of this fall's compost pile. In the middle are almost a hundred bags of leaves. By late spring, they will have partially broken down,. Front pile is last year's compost production. I do not turn the piles - what's the rush? The garden clipping pile is finished in a year and the leaves only pile is ready after six months (leaves must be moist). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Hobson's Garden: June 2015

http://rootbert.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

To boldly grow where no one has groan before (new post weekly). Friday, June 26, 2015. Not me. It’s all the fault of hybridisers forcing new plant varieties on me, plus there are old favourites that I always have to have. If there’s a plant that’s caught my interest this year, it’s succulents. I’m using a couple of galvanized. Off the coast of. Another vacation destination with Spanish overtones — sounds sun, sand, and sangria to me. Sempervivum, meanwhile, are found in southern. And the near east. W...

Just a speedy ten minute boat ride offshore, the island is one of a group in the marine park named after. On the return trip from Sapi, the boat docked at Jesselton point. Green Trips: Arizona Desert Botanical Garden

http://gardengripe.blogspot.com/2012/03/arizona-desert-botanical-garden.html

Arizona Desert Botanical Garden. The plan was to escape the snow for once, except this was the winter without any. Regardless, it didn’t discourage me from taking a trip south in February to do a little hiking around the red rock country in. Even there at higher elevations we walked in snow, but in Sedona apple blossoms were blooming. And down in. Spring was well underway, a perfect time to explore the. Green Trips: Hampton Court Flower Show

http://gardengripe.blogspot.com/2014/12/hampton-court-flower-show.html

Hampton Court Flower Show. Up at 4:00 AM to see flowers? Yes, but these shows, despite the name, are about much more than flowers. They’re like Mecca for gardeners, top of countless bucket lists. They feature gardens designed by the world’s best, the very latest in new plant introductions, and more garden paraphernalia to purchase (including buckets) than one could possibly imagine. Gluttony was amusingly represented by giant food cans used as planters, the sardine can appropriately a water garden. T...

Green Trips: Chelsea Flower Show and Great Dixter

http://gardengripe.blogspot.com/2013/10/its-all-about-timing.html

Chelsea Flower Show and Great Dixter. It's all about timing. My trip to the Chelsea Flower Show and gardens in the UK this year occurred after that country experienced the coldest spring in fifty years, and yet rhododendrons and azaleas were in full, glorious bloom coinciding with my visit. Another highlight was my first visit to Great Dixter, home and garden of the late Christopher Lloyd. Lloyd, revered by gardeners worldwide was a preeminent plantsman, garden writer, and television personality.

Green Trips: Quebec City

http://gardengripe.blogspot.com/2013/12/quebec-city.html

Since then, the old city has been designated as a world heritage site, and it’s a delightful place. The narrow streets are filled with countless hanging baskets and window boxes. The public gardens are immaculate, particularly those in front of the Quebec National Assembly. Colour rich flower beds radiate from the Fontaine de Tourney, a massive cast iron fountain donated to celebrate the 400. First published August 2013 Waterloo Region Record and Guelph Mercury. Green Trips: Alnwick Castle

http://gardengripe.blogspot.com/2011/12/alnwick-castle.html

There’s an interesting new garden. New that is, compared to most. Gardens on the tourist route there. Gardens dating back to Victorian times are the norm, others centuries older. This one, however, only opened its gate to visitors ten years ago, which made me almost first in line, relatively speaking, when I stopped by this fall to check it out. Just a half hour drive from the Scottish border, it’s been around for about fourteen hundred years. It was built as a first line of defence against the Scots.

Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, Pattaya, Thailand. It may seem like a long way to go to look at plants, but with only a few adventurous crocuses attempting to lead reluctant participants in a spring parade, the. I should have had a clue to what was awaiting me at Nong Nooch after seeing their gold medal winning display at last year’s Chelsea Flower Show, but I was unprepared for 600 magnificent acres of lush tropical gardens — and elephants. Hobson's Garden: Mellow Yellow

http://rootbert.blogspot.com/2015/07/mellow-yellow.html

To boldly grow where no one has groan before (new post weekly). Friday, July 10, 2015. It must have been the yellow rose I’d been examining, and then the yellow pu. As far as tomatoes go, it could be a viral, fungal, or bacterial disease; insect damage, lack of nutrients, lack of water, too much water, sunburn, or possibly, though perhaps not likely, deep rooted psychological problems. The list of possible reasons is so long it really needs a House (popular show) in the garden when it comes to diagno...
