Adventures In Thyme And Spates: Halloween
http://thymeandspates.blogspot.com/2014/10/halloween.html
In a couple of days, children in our area will walk towards our door, see a sign on the garage saying "No Candy". and leave. We don't "do" Halloween. Not in this house, anyway. And not really in Australia - not that you'd know it from entering your nearest supermarket or department store. It's been getting bigger the last couple years. The less-pagan-inclined can substitute a more family-friendly "harvest festival". But the six-month-too-late thing goes here too. All of the above are legitimate things to...

Adventures In Thyme And Spates: November 2013
http://thymeandspates.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Ive been spending a bit of time lately using Legos Digital Designer software to design some creations without having to actually have particular bricks in certain colours. Last nights multitasking (working on LDD while catching up on Sons of Anarchy) resulted in the above little design. I may have borrowed the red and white colour scheme from Australia Post. Adventures In Thyme And Spates: Christmas Movies
http://thymeandspates.blogspot.com/2013/12/christmas-movies.html
Here are ten films we'll be watching in this house over the month of December. They're in alphabetical order. until you get to my favourite "Christmas" movie. How does Santa get all those presents to all the kids in the world in one night. When one child's present is accidentally missed, it's up to Arthur and GrandSanta (Bill Nighy) to try and save the day. DIE HARD 2 (1990). I don't feel the bad guys are quite up to the standard of those in instalments 1 and 3 of the series, but it certainly goes for th...

Adventures In Thyme And Spates: Sneak Peeks
http://thymeandspates.blogspot.com/2014/06/sneak-peeks.html
Next month I'll be exhibiting my growing Lego beach town, "Minotaur Bay", at the Ipswich Brick Event. Construction is under way on a Maritime Museum. Will be held at the Ipswich Civic Centre on the weekend of July 12 and 13. Come along to see some very creative displays by local AFOLs (Adult Fans of Lego). For now, enjoy some more sneak peeks at Minotaur Bay. Landscaping in front of the museum. A diver checks out the shipwreck's figurehead. Nearly halfway through the year without a blog post!

Adventures In Thyme And Spates: October 2013
http://thymeandspates.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Jean-Luc Picard vs Tumnus. Gandalf vs Lt Hicox. How far away is 2014? Posted by Glenn Davies. I have (sort of) new Lego storage! Now that Im on holidays from work for a couple weeks, Ive got time to do a few things around the house that I have either had little time for, or been downright putting off. One of those things is clearing out the garage, and assembling some furniture thats been sitting around in boxes. Minifig Rapper. So of course hes on a boat. Open mic night 25/10.

Adventures In Thyme And Spates: October Board Games (Tsuro / Puerto Rico / Carcassonne)
http://thymeandspates.blogspot.com/2013/10/october-board-games-tsuro-puerto-rico.html
October Board Games (Tsuro / Puerto Rico / Carcassonne). Once again it was that time of the month, and we gathered at Dave's house for more board game fun. This time, all three games played involved tiles. My island, filled with crops (tiles) and busy workers (the brown markers). First up was a couple rounds of Tsuro. Which we've done a few times before. It's a good fast way to get your mind in board-game mode. Second up was Puerto Rico. Rated highly on boardgamegeek. Each player purchases a building fro...

Adventures In Thyme And Spates: July 2014
http://thymeandspates.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
What happens when youre both a Lego fan and a science fiction fan? Well, it doesnt take long before you start creating minifigures and scenes to recreate some of your favourite sci-fi movies and shows. These are all what Ive seen referred to as purist in that all parts are official Lego parts from sets. If you look around the internet for custom minifigures, youll find a lot of people doing this, but youll also find a lot of custom printing, custom decals, and things like that. None of that here!

Adventures In Thyme And Spates: SF minifigs
http://thymeandspates.blogspot.com/2014/07/sf-minifigs.html
What happens when you're both a Lego fan and a science fiction fan? Well, it doesn't take long before you start creating minifigures and scenes to recreate some of your favourite sci-fi movies and shows. All I've done is mixed and matched existing parts to create my own versions of these sci-fi characters. The first one I did, from some months ago, was from AMC's The Walking Dead. The faces of the "Army of the Dead" figures (from the Lord of the Rings Pirate Ship Ambush. Next up was HBO's Game Of Thrones.
