Mitzi Writes

Sunday, April 15, 2012. Continuing the Dark Shadows Meme I started earlier:. I've been thinking about why I loved Caleb Morley and Barnabas Collins so much and other modern-day vampires not so much. I've always been attracted to were-animals so I haven't really put vampires in any of my stories, except one slightly ****** paranormal short story I never finished - and the vampires in that story were female, southern and killing off Union boys. So why Caleb Morley of Port Charles fame? Links to this post.

Mitzi Writes: September 2011

http://mitziwrites.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Saturday, September 3, 2011. Why do they come in packs.like rabid dogs.or a colony.like rabid bats? They always bum me out, especially when I get a couple at once. Prozac, anyone? No - not on that.yet. So I'm rethinking one novel that is completed and have to finish editing another one. Oh, yeah - I'm also editing My Guy's novel - well, the latest one. He has seven or eight completed manuscripts. I've lost count. He's retired. And that's what I'll be soon.retired except for writing full time.

Mitzi Writes: February 2012

http://mitziwrites.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Monday, February 13, 2012. This is a story I wrote several years ago. It's my Valentine to my friends,. Especially my friends with cats as family members. 8220;You should get a kitten,” my daughter said as she pushed another cardboard box in the back of her little hatchback. Donna still looked like my little girl to me – all curly red hair and freckles. But she really was a young woman going out into the world – leaving for college two hundred miles away from me. 8220;Think about it, Mom. Save a litt...

Mitzi Writes: Excerpt: The Last RN

http://mitziwrites.blogspot.com/2012/03/excerpt-last-rn.html

Tuesday, March 13, 2012. Excerpt: The Last RN. I could smell death even though I was still standing on the narrow stoop of the small Cape Cod. I hadn’t yet knocked and the smell, the cloying, sickening odor of someone dying of cancer, was almost overwhelming. In the few seconds it took for me to knock and the door to be opened, I wondered why I was standing there. What was I doing? Why, knowing what I might see inside, had I agreed to come to this house? But she needed convincing. Her husband and son...

Mitzi Writes: Environment of a Writer

http://mitziwrites.blogspot.com/2011/07/environment-of-writer.html

Thursday, July 7, 2011. Environment of a Writer. Anyone coming into my apartment for the first time will notice one thing - well, maybe two. First - books, books, books. My shrink once said I use them as a wall to keep people out. So? I love books. Some people.not so much. I'm thinking about this, because, you see, I will be marrying another writer next year - another lover of books, another person who goes from one thing to another, someone else who has a lot of interests. Our biggest task will be t...

WitchLit: Another Year and More Books

http://witchlit.blogspot.com/2011/08/another-year-and-more-books.html

One Hundred Books in One Year. Sunday, August 14, 2011. Another Year and More Books. I’m reviving this blog but not the 100 books in a year challenge I made for myself. I didn’t make. I did read/listen to 75 books so I came close – but no cigar. So let’s get started again:. The book club book for last month was Unbroken. By Laura Hillenbrand, the author of Seabiscuit. Was about the war in the Pacific. Making a 180 degree turn, I read Some Like It Hotter,. A romantic time travel to the Civil War, by Deb S...

One Hundred Books in One Year. Sunday, February 20, 2011. Hunt for the Skin Walker. Hunt for the Skinwalker. Science confronts the unexplained at a remote ranch in Utah Colm A. Kelleher, Ph.D. and George Knapp. I was drawn to this book because of the title - as someone interested in all things Native American and/or paranormal. The fact that there was a scientific approach to unexplainable activity was also important. Too many times skeptics note the lack of "scientific" basis for the paranormal. Nella L...

WitchLit: October 2010

http://witchlit.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

One Hundred Books in One Year. Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Rot and Ruin by Jonathan Maberry. I loved this book and not because Jonathan wrote it and not because it's about Zombies and not because it's a coming-of-age story. I loved it for all of the above and more. When I first started reading this book, I compared it to The Hunger Games. I need to read the next two books in that trilogy; however, Rot and Ruin. Now, I'm waiting for the next one. http://witchlit.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

One Hundred Books in One Year. Thursday, September 30, 2010. I just finished Maybe This Time. Jenny, I just knew there had to be a twist. There had to be something.something.it just couldn't end so easily. Especially when I saw on my Kindle that I had 6% left. You were going to do something with the heroine. And I was not disappointed. I hadn't even figured it out. And, Jenny, that last little bit at the very end.nice.very nice. Thanks for an enjoyable time. Now back to Hunger Games. Links to this post.

WitchLit: The King of Plagues by Jonathan Maberry

http://witchlit.blogspot.com/2011/06/king-of-plagues-by-jonathan-maberry.html

One Hundred Books in One Year. Friday, June 17, 2011. The King of Plagues by Jonathan Maberry. There are books that I "fall into". Books that weave a plot and characters so well, that I can't wait to get back to them. Books that I hate to put down at night to go to sleep or in the morning to go to work. Books that make my lunch hour run over a bit because I have to get to the end of a scene, a chapter. The World War II Gothic The Distant Hours. For some reason the second book, Dragon Factory. The Cat Who...

WitchLit: December 2010

http://witchlit.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

One Hundred Books in One Year. Sunday, December 12, 2010. I know I've been quiet for the last few weeks - too busy writing novels and short stories to write about my reading. But I will do that later today. Right now I must tell you, Constant Reader, about my dream. As with reading Quietus. A few months ago, my reading of Son of the Endless Night. By John Farris is giving me dreams - very real dreams that I'm writing down in a notebook for future reference. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

WitchLit: November 2010

http://witchlit.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

One Hundred Books in One Year. Sunday, November 21, 2010. Still Reading. While Writing. I just finished tow very different mysteries:. Murder on the Cliffs. Book with a famous amateur detective: Daphne DuMaurier and so set at the end of World War I. A very modern murder mystery that uses emails as clues and lures. Both were very entertaining but Murder on the Cliffs. Disappointed me because I was looking for the DuMaurier atmosphere and voice. I have to read the orginal books for that. Links to this post.

WitchLit: Counting Books

http://witchlit.blogspot.com/2011/06/counting-books.html

One Hundred Books in One Year. Sunday, June 12, 2011. Since I've been silent for almost two months - work and life intrudes at times - and it's almost one year since I set a goal of 100 books in 1 year, I've decided to update this blog and see just exactly where I am. Latest books on CD:. I, Alex Cross. By Stephen King - for the fourth time. The Real Men in Black. Yes, the books on CD do out number the read books. I've been doing a lot of driving for work lately.
