Drinks for the House: January 2011
http://drinksforthehouse.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Sweet Reminders of Summer. The temperature gauge in the car read zero degrees in my morning commute to work. Zero! Garnish with a floating basil leaf. Strawberry Daiquiri (via About.com. 2 oz light rum. Weekly f...

The ChocoVine Phenomenon, or What Separates a Breakout Brand from an Also-Ran. For those of you unfamiliar with the brand, (and therefore probably snickering), ChocoVine. Is one of those unique new product successes we see so rarely in the industry. Not just a breakout brand, but one that flies counter to what the pundits would tell you will work. In point of fact, ChocoVine was mentioned by every panelist in our wholesaler session at the U.S. Drinks Conference. And just yesterday in a bar in Brooklyn th...

Drinks for the House: February 2011
http://drinksforthehouse.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Let's talk Turkish. wine! By this time, you probably. Think I'm crazy, but actually Turkish wine making tradition dates back beyond many of the world's best known wine regions (estimated 7000BC.) It's also the fourth-largest wine producing region in the world. So you'd better listen up. Consider yourself lucky that you've stumbled upon this post - you're ahead of the curve. The bittersweet news is, you won't be for long. This Thursday, February 24th, the Wines of Turkey. At BAT, we have worked with the T...

A Visit to City Steam Brewery. I promise, the picture is not as bad as it looks. What you see here are the remnants of several beer flights (3 oz. pours in each mini beer mug) shared among my coworkers last week for our annual BAT Holiday Party. This year we decided to have the fiesta at City Steam Brewery. In downtown Hartford. The historic multi-use facility has been transformed to accommodate the brewery itself, along with a restaurant, bar, pool room, and comedy club. Why the Naughty Nurse (top row, ...

Drinks for the House: Cocktails and Art
http://drinksforthehouse.blogspot.com/2011/12/cocktails-and-art.html
An illustration of Chris Gall's that was featured in the ArtsEye press release. This post may appear to be slightly anomalous, as I'm highlighting an event that, sadly, I won't be able to actually attend myself. So why am I taking the time to write about an Opening Reception at an art gallery in Tucson, Arizona that is taking place tomorrow night? Was hosting an Opening Cocktail Reception to exhibit Chris Gall's illustrations from the new "The PDT Cocktail Book". The combination of artwork and cocktails ...

Now THAT was a storm! CT, NJ and other non urban areas around NY and Boston got absolutely nailed by a weekend storm. Our office is closed for the duration but all of our folks are OK. Laura made it in to join Jeff and me on Monday morning to find an office with no power and no heat. That's Laura organizing the Wine and Spirit handbooks with gloves on. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Cheers and have a very happy Halloween! Labels: Bar None Drinks. After that, I'll be making my way down to New York C...
