Micha'el in Israel: Resolved
http://mkerfeld.blogspot.com/2007/08/resolved.html
Ramblings from the IBL's tallest left-handed Pitcher. Friday, August 3, 2007. Weekend coming up, Shabbat dinner tonight with friends and a nice day off tomorrow to maybe catch a movie or some beach time. Thanks for keeping your blog current. I am a big baseball fan and a big Israel fan . . . ah, maybe not in that order. :) I have been to Israel a few times and love hearing of your exploits, as well as your take on the games. Just want you to know you are read faithfully. Take care and God bless.

http://mkerfeld.blogspot.com/2007/10/to-recent-visitors.html
Ramblings from the IBL's tallest left-handed Pitcher. Thursday, October 4, 2007. From the looks of things, I haven't posted anything here in over a month. While I have no shortage of material to write about, I find myself with much less 'free time' to spend writing than I had while in Israel. Traveling, the job search, catching up with friends, the job search, watching college football, the job search. sense a pattern developing? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Out of the Frying Pan.
Micha'el in Israel: Comments
http://mkerfeld.blogspot.com/2007/08/comments.html
Ramblings from the IBL's tallest left-handed Pitcher. Saturday, August 4, 2007. I wanted to thank everyone for the comments that have been left of late - many of which are anonymous so I have no way to thank you by name, but to Craig, Tim, Sherry, and everyone else that has been leaving their kind words - thank you! This way, in the future, I can say what is on my mind without worrying about stepping on any toes, at least as far as the league is officially concerned. Go Blue Sox (sorry, Mike)! The striki...
Micha'el in Israel: It has finally happened
http://mkerfeld.blogspot.com/2007/08/it-has-finally-happened.html
Ramblings from the IBL's tallest left-handed Pitcher. Tuesday, August 7, 2007. It has finally happened. I've been waiting for this night for a long time. Finally, I am exhausted to the point of being unable to write anything meaningful or worth reading. This is due, happily, to the fact that I threw a complete game tonight in my best start of the year. After the necessary couple-mile run to keep the arm in shape, I'm tuckered out and ready for a movie and sleep. Congrats buddy great job.

bIBLemetrics: Eladio Yanked
http://biblemetrics.blogspot.com/2008/08/eladio-yanked.html
The blog for Israel Baseball League statistical analysis. Tuesday, August 19, 2008. After being signed by the Yankees last autumn. Only to be bounced around among the Yanks' various minor league affiliate teams. Depending on which other catchers were injured, IBL star Eladio Rodriguez has finally been let go. Eladio, affectionately if unimaginatively known by fans as E-Rod, didn't rack up the greatest batting stats. Rodriguez expressed his frustration in an interview with fan blogger Mike Ashmore. bIBLemetrics: The run mystery, solved?
http://biblemetrics.blogspot.com/2007/10/run-mystery-solved.html
The blog for Israel Baseball League statistical analysis. Tuesday, October 9, 2007. The run mystery, solved? With some help from experienced sabermetricians over at the Baseball Fever forums. I may have solved the Case of the Too Many Runs. Turns out, Tango Tiger has already worked out multipliers for the BaseRuns estimator which take errors into account, along with just about every other imaginable game event. The complete set of weights can be found on his website. BaseRuns = A x B / (B C) HR. Thankful...
bIBLemetrics: Aw, shucks!
http://biblemetrics.blogspot.com/2008/04/aw-shucks.html
The blog for Israel Baseball League statistical analysis. Thursday, April 24, 2008. What can I say? I'm honored - the Brits would say chuffed. And more than a little stunned that the one-and-only IBL journalist Elli Wohlgelernter has singled me out (anonymous little old me! For praise due to my writings about the IBL. One guy in particular has been honest in his writing, pure in his study of the sport, and straightforward about giving credit where it’s due. But I've learned a lot about baseball this past...
bIBLemetrics: What do the Yankees see in Rodriguez and Rees?
http://biblemetrics.blogspot.com/2007/10/what-do-yankees-see-in-rodriguez-and.html
The blog for Israel Baseball League statistical analysis. Sunday, October 28, 2007. What do the Yankees see in Rodriguez and Rees? While the Red Sox were clobbering the Rockies the other day, IBL fans were treated to a smile when the Yankees announced the signing of IBL batting stars Jason Rees and Eladio Rodriguez. The first IBL position players to sign pro contracts and the first IBL alumni to sign with MLB farm systems. Eladio has minor league experience already. Is even thinner. He's played colle...

The blog for Israel Baseball League statistical analysis. Tuesday, September 16, 2008. New pro league in 2009? Forgive me for reproducing this IAB press release, and it's far from clear how substantive it is, but it's nice to hear nevertheless. bIBLemetrics: The data and the quirky schedule
http://biblemetrics.blogspot.com/2007/08/data-and-quirky-schedule.html
The blog for Israel Baseball League statistical analysis. Wednesday, August 29, 2007. The data and the quirky schedule. One thing the IBL handled pretty well was data gathering. For each game, the website features not only a complete box score, but also a play-by-play game log. The only thing missing by major league standards is pitch-by-pitch data. Sections of the website. So I've been working on processing the game data files to assemble as accurate a database as possible for analysis. In fact, due to ...
bIBLemetrics: Welcome to bIBLemetrics!
http://biblemetrics.blogspot.com/2007/08/welcome-to-biblemetrics.html
The blog for Israel Baseball League statistical analysis. Monday, August 27, 2007. With the inaugural season of the Israel Baseball League. Behind us, I've just launched bIBLemetrics. I was a big baseball fan as a kid, but lost interest when I finished high school nearly 20 years ago. This year, partly thanks to the IBL, I'm back with a vengeance. And I'm returning to one of my childhood dreams: to be the next Bill James. Instead of going up against the experienced statheads of Baseball Prospectus. Contr...
bIBLemetrics: How deep was the bench?
http://biblemetrics.blogspot.com/2007/12/how-deep-was-bench.html
The blog for Israel Baseball League statistical analysis. Tuesday, December 25, 2007. How deep was the bench? In the comments,. The subject has come up of the depth of the bench in the IBL - or, rather, the lack of depth. With just 20 players per team and the rosters fixed at the start of the season, teams had no way to make up for players whose performance fell short. They couldn't just bring someone up from "the minors" midseason, since there were no minors to draw from. Can we measure depth of bench?

Being right does matter - and the science tribe has a long track record of getting things right in the end. Modern society is built on things it got right" - Joel Achenbach. Friday, 3 April 2015. Lab meat and the force of public opinion. A few news articles have been recently commenting on breakthroughs in the production of "lab-grown meat" - muscular tissue grown artificially which could be consumed as a more sustainable alternative to animal husbandry.
