Lowdown on this past weekend's parades. January 20th, 2008 (01:25 pm). I went Friday night to the first Mobile Mardi Gras parade, the Conde Cavaliers. The floats looked very nice with the Skeleton one being my personal favorite. We watched it at the Athelstan Club's stands, hoping it wouldn't be very crowded. It was! Lowdown on this past weekend's parades. January 20th, 2008 (01:25 pm). I went Friday night to the first Mobile Mardi Gras parade, the Conde Cavaliers. All About Mardi Gras. December 28th, 2007 (01:52 am). I would like to let others experience what I do during Mardi Gras. Also the social frustrations of it. Mobile's Mardi Gras is the oldest in the nation and we do it right! In fact, Mobile gentleman who were in the first group, the Cowbellions de Rakins ,which formed during the 1830's, moved to New Orleans and showed them how to do it. The resulting group is now the Krewe of Comus. Mobile was founded in 1702; N.O. in 1718.

Who are Those people in the Stands? And Why can't I sit there? December 28th, 2007 (03:40 pm). Those of you who have been to Mobile's Mardi Gras may have noticed that there are several stands with seats in certain areas. One is on Bienville Square and belongs to the Athelstan Club members. Another belongs to the Bienville club, another club close by that is high atop the AmSouth Building. There is also one for the Mobile Carnival Association in front of the Carnival Museum.
