Modelling Bakewell Station

This website details the ongoing construction of my 00 gauge model railway, which represents my local railway station, Bakewell, the prototype of which is sadly now closed. The purpose of the site is to record the research, history and building of the layout, and to highlight the skills and techniques I learnt when scratch-building the structures, in the hope that it inspires others to have a go, or just to find a trick or technique to help them with their own modelling.

Modelling Bakewell Station

Here then, are the construction details of my second attempt. For the main side rails of the bridge arch, I used "L" shaped styrene rod. And I glued to the bottom of it, some 20thou x 80thou styrene strip. So that the two together formed an inverted "T" shape, with on long and one short arm. I then bent the rails to form the curvature of the bridge arch, by putting them in a jig made from a piece of wood and some nails, and then placing it in a domestic oven on a low light for 10 minutes. Once dried, the...

Construction - Up Station Building. The Up Line Station Building. For the two Station buildings, I used a set of plans of the building taken from Bill Hudson's invaluable book "Through Limestone Hills" which is an essential resource for anyone modelling the Midland line through the Peaks. The plans in the book are reproduced at 2mm ("N") scale, but I photocopied them and blew them up to 4mm ("00") scale. I then cut and scored those out, and applied them to the top of the 40thou base sheet. From some more...

Construction - Goods Shed. The goods shed was built from scratch out of plasticard (styrene sheet) and was based on pictures of the original prototype. Here's a couple of the pictures I worked from:. Using 80thou (2mm) black styrene, I started with the gable ends. I made the top section of the gables with multiple thicknesses, to get the required bulk for the gable walls, which are visible above the roof at each end. And the detail of the stone arches over the loading doors. So I went over it with Humbro...

Construction - Road Bridge. The road bridge was the first structure I built for the layout. Here's a couple of photos of the prototype structure, and then the completed model. I started by building a cardboard mockup, to make sure the size and shape fitted the platforms and track, with sufficient clearance on the curve. Then I transferred the shape to a piece of ply which would form the basis of the model. I again checked that it would fit the space required. This image shows the basic structure of the b...

Modelling Bakewell Station

The Location and History of Bakewell Station. The town of Bakewell is situated in the Peak District of Derbyshire, more or less in the centre of Great Britain. It lies on both a major road route and what was once a major rail route. The road is the A6, which originally stretched from London to Edinburgh, and is still the main arterial route between Derby and Manchester. The rail route was the Midland Main Line (not to be confused with the present day rail company) which ran from London to Manchester.

Jueves, 21 de julio de 2011. HOW TO PAINT WHEELS. Extracted from MIG Jimenez book:. I have felt it necessary to gather together five different types of wheels, in different environments and situations that cover the majority of our needs. The examples have been taken from the same model of wheel (specifically an American wheel) that could well be situated in any place in the world. You should remember that techniques can be applied to any wheel on any type of vehicle at any time of year. 1- The vehicle b...

Sunday, August 28, 2011. Lotus Wang does a cover of T-ara’s ‘Bo Peep Bo Peep’. Last year, T-ara’s comeback track after their debut, ‘Bo Beep Bo Peep‘, soared the group to fame for their cute outfits and bear paws in their performances, not to mention the ridiculously addictive melody and accompanying dance moves for the song. A veteran Taiwanese entertainer (aged 41) by the name of Lotus Wang (王彩樺) has just released a Taiwanese cover of T-ara’s song with the name of ‘Bobee 保庇‘. Check out her cover below!

About as small as one can get in 1/64th scale. This page is reserved for a full post about Tresparrett Wharf. But here are some pictures in the meantime… (Please scroll down for several completed entries.). The box that constrains the size of the layout. Its internal measurements are 740mm long, 210mm wide and 140mm deep. This allows two boards 700mm x 200mm x 140mm to be accommodated. Waiting for the train…. is a LSWR layout allowed to sit on a GWR seat? 8230; and safely stowed overhead. May 6, 2016.
