Confessions of an SCA Geek: February 2011

http://scageek.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Confessions of an SCA Geek. Reminiscing about life in the SCA in the 1980s and 1990s. Thursday, February 24, 2011. I recently posted a photo of my Silver Crescent scroll. To my "photo a day" project. The scroll was made by Master Harold von Aeurbach, a good friend and a great artist. Please go look at his work. I talked about the two awards I received in the SCA here. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I am a train geek and a photographer. But more importantly Im a father and husband. View my complete profile.

Confessions of an SCA Geek: March 2007

http://scageek.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html

Confessions of an SCA Geek. Reminiscing about life in the SCA in the 1980s and 1990s. Wednesday, March 21, 2007. I was reading a "Behind the Scenes" news article on CNN.com. About a woman who used her deceased husband's sperm to become pregnant. The husband was killed by a sniper in Iraq. It was interesting, but one phrase caught my eye. The "SCAdian Alert" alarm bell went off in my head. So, a little more Googling found an article on armytimes.com. That goes into more detail on the event. At times in my...

Confessions of an SCA Geek: Awards in the SCA

http://scageek.blogspot.com/2006/09/awards-in-sca.html

Confessions of an SCA Geek. Reminiscing about life in the SCA in the 1980s and 1990s. Friday, September 22, 2006. Awards in the SCA. In my SCA career, I was honoured to receive two awards, the Award of Arms (AoA), and becoming a member of the Order of the Silver Crescent (OSC). When my name was called, I was so awed by being in Court that I approached the Queen, bowing, before I realized I had forgotten the pictures back at my seat! I shakily made my way back to my seat and sat through the rest of Court ...

September 10th, 1976. September 11, 2016. September 11, 2016. Yesterday I had the pleasure to be a guest operator on the Waterloo Region Model Railroad Club. I was invited by Chris van der Heide. Because he kindly replied to my last post regarding my interest in learning more about OCS operations. The club uses this method in its operations and he thought that it would be of interest to me to learn how they approach this. Thanks Chris! Peter at home in his dispatcher’s chair. Over the course of a 6 hour ...

I model the G&W Quebec Gatineau shortline railroad from Montreal to Quebec City. These are my adventures in the hobby. January 20, 2017. January 20, 2017. Like most modelers I seem to have an endless list of unfinished projects. And I am sure that this little project will occupy many frustrating hours. 2 Set up Command Stations and Boosters. Happily, Steve Juranics gave me a great deal on a used DB 150 Command Station. And I plan to hook this up to the DCS 51 – as either the command station or as a...

Confessions of a Train Geek: Elie's Station

http://blog.traingeek.ca/2010/08/elies-station.html

Confessions of a Train Geek. The world's longest running railway blog. Monday, August 02, 2010. I was in Elie, Manitoba a while ago and saw this structure. This HAS to have been a railway station. The style just screams "station" to me, from the freight door on the left to the slight bumped out center section to the lack of ground level windows on the ends, and the roof line. A cursory Google search showed nothing but I'm convinced this was a train station. Anyone have any proof? 2 August 2010 at 19:42.

Confessions of a Train Geek. The world's longest running railway blog. Sunday, May 17, 2015. Book Review: Trackside in the Maritimes by Bill Linley. Bill Linley has finished his third book, "Trackside in the Maritimes 1967-1993" through Morning Sun Books. This book covers railway operations in the three Canadian Maritime provinces (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island). Disclaimer: I consider Bill to be a good friend. Toy Train For Beginners. Just another WordPress.com site. Find out About Bachmann Product Trains. July 11, 2011. Bull Matching up the miniature design train to the appropriate dimensions track is of paramount significance. If the track rails are as well narrowly or too broadly spaced, the locomotive will derail. Occasionally, if the spacing is an anomaly, the track may be widened or narrowed in smaller increments by heating the rails of the track and forcing them in or out. A Quick Background of Bachmann.

Confessions of a Model Train Geek - A model train geek, learning as he goes.

Confessions of a Model Train Geek. A model train geek, learning as he goes. The Nova Scotia Eastern Railway, Part 2. I ballasted the peninsula recently. It took me a long time to get started because I was pretty nervous about “doing it right”. Eventually I convinced myself to “just do it”. Watching a YouTube video or two helped. There’s my ballast laying tools – a spoon to lay it down, then two sizes of paint brushes to move it around. The key is to mist it onto the track, rather than blast the ballast w...
