SueShells: Sweet Sue
http://sueshells.blogspot.com/2008/08/sweet-sue.html
Monday, August 4, 2008. I haven't done a survey, but I'm pretty sure that Mom's grave is the only one in Forestlawn Gardens with a chemical formula on the marker. Mom was a teacher, not a chemist, and taught science only to second-graders, who never got to the periodic table of elements, much less the atoms that make up molecules. So it began. Later in the letter, he explained that the formula described sucrose, which he noted was the sweetest form of sugar. And so the marker at her grave reads:.

Saturday, March 22, 2008. St Louis Pom Pom. You can keep your garden gnomes. My family has traveling pom-poms- the orange and blue of Auburn University, located in L.A., otherwise known as Lower Alabama. My parents have photographed their pom-poms with the Golden Gate Bridge, the Eiffel Tower, Niagara Falls, and more. Even better than the photos are the stories of what went into making them. Today, the photo takes on deeper meaning when I think about my extremely patient mother using one of her shoelaces...

SueShells: June 2008
http://sueshells.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 4, 2008. In Mom’s hospital room, as their 50. Wedding anniversary drew to a close, Dad told a few more wedding and honeymoon stories, then kissed Mom good-night and went to rest at his youngest daughter’s house nearby, the first night he’d spent away from the hospital since Mom had been admitted. I stayed with Mom that night. She died the next morning, just as Dad and my sister were entering the hospital’s front doors. Posted by Susan C. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). J D and Me.

SueShells: Aisle Bee Seeing Ewe
http://sueshells.blogspot.com/2008/05/aisle-bee-watching-you.html
Thursday, May 1, 2008. Aisle Bee Seeing Ewe. I was almost a stalker today. Before her illness, Mom was so smart and funny – so sharp. She read all the time and loved words, a whiz at crossword puzzles and Jumbles. We followed him over the bridge and turned right, while 4NGUY kept going straight. I wouldn’t have time to explain the whole story, and he’d think I was a total wacko. And, besides, I wanted to retain a little of the mystery surrounding that moment with my mom. Posted by Susan C. I am a New Yor...

SueShells: December 2007
http://sueshells.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 24, 2007. 8220;Steve’s late. He’s never this late.”. Sue looked at the clock again, sitting on the sofa, back straight. Her husband wasn’t home yet, and she couldn’t think of any reason why he’d be out this long after dark. The man sitting beside her was tired, and he wanted to go to sleep. But he couldn’t just leave her like that. 8220;I’ll stay with you until he’s home,” he said, and settled back in his chair. The man stayed with her, reading sometimes, and watching her as she slept.

SueShells: Remember
http://sueshells.blogspot.com/2008/04/remember_01.html
Tuesday, April 1, 2008. We were at the Alamo, trying to forget. Dad, my son, daughter, and I drove from Alabama to San Antonio to visit the place that inspired the cry "Remember the Alamo! Three weeks after we’d buried my mother. She’d fought hard, but lost her long battle against heart disease and vascular dementia. San Antonio was new for all of us except Dad. Our family tradition was born. With a respectful nod to the Ranger, Dad directed me to stand on the sidewalk several yards in front of the Alamo...
