The Modern Mourner

Monday, October 24, 2016. Here are some lovely wooden urns, designed by the amazing Bryan Appleton. Bryan builds unique, one-of-a-kind pieces from reclaimed wood. Most of his materials are salvaged from Bay Area/SF Victorian houses - from wainscotting to mantels. He also adds hardware details from vintage furniture and other rare flea market finds. Box #1 features a Victorian cast-iron owl that was originally a plant hanger/bird cage holder. Victorian oak mantel is repurposed for the sides of box #3.

The Modern Mourner: August 2014

http://modernmourner.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Jane and Jane McCoy's love for Mary reminds me that it's the nature of love to be eventually lost. The deeper the love, the greater the loss. And love that is lost is no less beautiful because it's lost. This is why we must strive to make mourning beautiful. By the way, I love this time of year. The angle of the sun makes everything golden. And my modest little succulent garden is starting to bloom! Links to this post. Thursday, August 14, 2014. By A and B Design Studio. I belie...

The Modern Mourner: crocheted urn cozies

http://modernmourner.blogspot.com/2014/08/knit-urn-cozies.html

Thursday, August 14, 2014. By A and B Design Studio. A and B Design Studio. Has several crocheted items that could work as cozies. I especially love these owls:. They come in several colors, but I especially like the neutrals. Check out this off white guy. A and B Designs. Also makes crocheted box designs. And just to keep your loved ones' ashes company, a crocheted bird. Or two or three) would do the job! I love this idea! August 23, 2014 at 4:28 AM. August 23, 2014 at 8:00 AM. The Modern Mourner: Memorial Photos

http://modernmourner.blogspot.com/2009/04/memorial-photos.html

Tuesday, April 21, 2009. Most memorial pics are solemn and serious, formal sit-down portraits with the life sucked out of them. Is that how we really remember people? For me, it's those casual snapshots that hold the most personality. By transforming them into art, it's possible to elevate and honor the candid moment into something meaningful and fun. Can transform that favorite snapshot into art. If you know someone who's recently gone through a loss, a gift certificate. April 22, 2009 at 9:52 AM. I bel...

The Daily Undertaker: Paul Olson: Undertaker and citizen of the year. Saturday, February 21, 2009. Paul Olson: Undertaker and citizen of the year. I have learned many things from working with Paul Olson. Here are just a few:. Treat every one with respect and care, no matter what their station in life. Be just as gracious to them on the street as you are in the funeral home. People, especially small town people, can tell if you are genuine. All the steeples point in the same direction". The Daily Undertaker: November 2013. Saturday, November 16, 2013. Sharing a Grave: Urban Cemetery Solutions. Crowded in life and in death. One of the great benefits of cemeteries is the De facto green spaces and parks that they create after the cities grow around them. If the cemetery hadn't been there, it would just be another neighborhood or strip mall. The reality is though, that when the city grows around the cemetery, there is no room to expand, and solutions must be found. Necropolis with a view.

In Case I Die. Sunday, May 5, 2013. Party animal, that’s me. I have a problem, and I've been such a spaz about it I don't even know how to explain myself. Let's start with the part where I am totally not professional. Like, if my coworkers (children) had access to the internet, I would have been fired a thousand times by now. Okay, that's all I can say while "others" of an actual professional nature might be listening- please excuse me for a second. Please Don't Lick My Face. Ok are they gone? Feeling mo...

Saturday, October 10, 2009. Mourning and Moving On. As the Wheel of the Year turns, coming closer to Hallowe'en/Samhain and Christmas/Yule, many people remember those they have lost, whether long ago or recently. This time of the year is often sadder for the lack of those gone ahead. However, we can (and MUST) intentionally remember the holidays when we HAD those we've lost. Recall those times that were funny and joyous - or just there. So hang in there! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Life and Times of ...
