Malaika in Africa: 4 July 2013: Happy Independence Day to Egypt?
http://jamilahabibi.blogspot.com/2013/07/4-july-2013-happy-independence-day-to.html
Thursday, July 04, 2013. 4 July 2013: Happy Independence Day to Egypt? Egypt did not/does not have the proper institutions in place necessary for a problem-free democratic political transition. Surely. And yet I am saddened that Egyptians have lost their chance to collectively express their displeasure with Moursy and remove him from power democratically. Could they have done it? Would the Brotherhood have conceded defeat if, indeed, the popular vote was against their candidate? At at Bodbe. The chur...

Saturday, July 06, 2013. 6 July: The Russian Bathhouse. The only thing keeping me away as I sit here trying to write this post are the dogs barking to each other throughout the neighborhood. It is only 12:51am (only! But it has been a BUSY day. It has also been my last full day in Tbilisi. I leave tomorrow afternoon. 2) Sakaashvili is famousfor slimming down the public sector through various reforms (particularly in the educational and law enforcement sectors). This will be my last post. Tomorrow mor...

Malaika in Africa: July 2011
http://jamilahabibi.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 19, 2011. A few photos of our summer adventures:. Not a great photo but this is of North Beach, Maryland- a great Chesapeake Bay beach only 1.5 hrs away. We went with our great friends the Wilks family and the blob you see in the water is Nate with Yumi riding on his back. We frequently meet Nate for lunch at the nearby Reston Town Center. Can you spot Yumi? With the addition of an infant carrier in the grocery cart, Yumi has been promoted. Yumi and Emi both ADORE Ayame. We had a great day!

I wish I could give credit to the chef but alas- I don't know her name! She is the friend of my friend Christine- who threw a great one year birthday party for her baby girl Addison. Tuesday, July 02, 2013. 2 July 2013: Poor Chechnya. My post today, alas, will be brief. I will be rising early tomorrow so as to attend the Egyptian Coptic service early tomorrow morning with the hope of gaining greater understanding of the Coptic migration to Georgia. Visited the restaurant at which we will eat our closing feast on Saturday (pictures on Facebook reflect the view from the restaurant balcony). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Malaika in Africa: 5 July 2013: Fajitas and Jazz in Tbilisi

Friday, July 05, 2013. 5 July 2013: Fajitas and Jazz in Tbilisi. Be moving abroad in 2014, so I figured it would make the best sense to enroll in GLOA 710 this summer. The fact that it would take place in Eastern Europe was, for me, and added bonus. Are always dramatic and heavy. That matches my impression of the two Georgian movies I have seen- "Repentance" and "Street Days." "Street Days" dealt with a grave topic (drug addiction) but was fast-paced and, at times, humorous. The lecture inclu...Our secon...

Malaika in Africa: June 2012
http://jamilahabibi.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 30, 2012. 30 June: The police station. 30 June Visa renewal day! 160;They were very chatty and won Yumi over with pictures of their children saved on their mobile phones. Yumi always loves to see these photos and learn the names/ages of these other kids. I think she is pretty lonely for friends here. (As an aside, when I got her up this morning and said brightly "Today is a new day! She asked hopefully "Are we going back home today? 160;Maybe we should just stick with Beity Rose, with i...

Trav's Random Thoughts: Vegas - Day 1
http://travisaurus.blogspot.com/2009/02/vegas-day-1.html
Here's where I share my thoughts about anything I feel like sharing. So there. Wednesday, February 18, 2009. Vegas - Day 1. Well, day 1 didn't really involve Vegas. Paul and I hit the road around noon. After a very lengthy detour in Lehi to get to Wendy's (those guys are bastards): and may I interrupt this blog to talk about this for a moment? Ya know how you're cruising down the freeway and you see the different signs advising you of what Gas, Hotel, and Food options you have at the next exit? Everythin...

Tuesday, July 31, 2012. 30 June: Green smoothies in Jordan. Today, so far, has been a a much needed "good one." Other than a little grouchiness at the girls for bickering during my workout (I just cannot seem to ignore it! I have felt calm and happy all morning. Aya helped by waking at the acceptable hour of 6:30am. Everything went smoothly, even our departure and return trip. I had to beg a driver to take us back to Shmeisani, infamous for its traffic, but luckily succeeded. It is 2:41pm. These two ladi...
