The Periscope: May 2013

Tuesday, May 7, 2013. Sabarmati Ashram - Gandhiji's Home at Ahmedabad. The one above is Gandhiji's room. It was highly guarded with an iron mesh. Found it ironical - he lived most of his life behind bars and continues even today at his own home. Maybe a strong glass would be better if the idea is security. One way it is better - he wouldn't be able to understand the goings on in our country. Have we lived up to his ideas and ideals? How did we turn away from what our forefathers lived and died for? We al...

The Periscope: September 2013

Wednesday, September 11, 2013. Policy making - my thoughts, mine and mine alone. Eat full roti, work for 100 days and vote. This is the new mantra, the so called young leader has coined. So called young leader because I thought 15 - 35 is young given the country age of our countrymen as well as the social scenario. However, what will a person do the rest of the days? If you have one drunkard in the family, then where will this money go is no one's guess. Even today, many of us know families that do e...

Tuesday, December 4, 2012. Love in the Times of Cholera - my viewpoint. The author has built the characters slowly, painstakingly over a period of time (here through their entire life). He is able to show the difference in their behaviour and attitude as they age through his writing, which is difficult to convey. In this, it looks like he has lived with his characters. The Periscope: October 2012
http://the-periscope.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, October 31, 2012. There are days, when all I want to do is run away - away to a place where there is no human being in sight. A place which is quiet, peaceful and beautiful. Every time I think of a place like this, it is the forests, Manasarovar, Leh-Ladakh, the Thar, a vacant beach, or the Rann of Kutch that comes to mind. If only we could have a 'Shut Down' day - when we shut down every man made machine and just listen to the real sound, it will be music to the mind. The 'I Know it All' Tribe.

The Periscope: August 2012
http://the-periscope.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 18, 2012. We saw the idea live, in action after going to the P.R. Ramakrishnan Memorial Music Concert where Mrs. R. Rajeswari, his wife had invited Mrs. Usha Uthup for an evening of music. We were happy to see his family celebrating his life and admire their strength and conviction in doing so. So, yes, someone's passing away is painful. For we can no longer talk to them, see them in person and interact with them. But life and death is a never ending cycle. I for one, would l...Learn to ...

The Periscope: In the scheme of the universe
http://the-periscope.blogspot.com/2014/12/in-scheme-of-universe.html
Thursday, December 25, 2014. In the scheme of the universe. Does it mean anything? The first smile of a newborn. The smell of rain on concrete. The breeze between fingers. The sweat pouring down temples. The passing of time. The icecream melting in the mouth. The tingling of excitement. The hopelessness of a wish. The altitude in a plane. The tree devoid of leaves. The fervour of a festival. The parching of the throat. The chanting of a sloka. The feeling of loneliness. The pain on loss. The horror of war.
