The House of Canada. Saturday, January 15, 2011. Does Canada Live up to It's Multicultural Claim? During our first class, students were tasked with brainstorming words that aptly describe. The most common and resonating word that sprung from this discussion was the term ‘multicultural’, which then inspired an exploration into the definition of multiculturalism in the context of Canadian society. In the article, ‘ Managing the House of Difference. Was in need of laborers (Mackey, P. 53). The nation starte...

The House of Canada: Pink or Blue?

http://www.mollyanne-thehouseofcanada.blogspot.com/2011/01/pink-or-blue.html

The House of Canada. Saturday, January 15, 2011. After reading the Social Construction of Sex, Gender, and Sexuality. I gained a new perspective on gender stereotyping. For my whole life, I fit the typical feminine gender role. I am a sucker for beauty products, clothes, fitness, and have typical mannerisms that define femininity. This reflection is going to look at how gender stereotyping has affected women in various ways. The status by which a person is chiefly identified ”. My immediate and most powe...

This is why, on the occasion of Canada Day that we are prouder than ever to call our selves Canadian.” (Jean, 2010). As I watched the Heritage minutes (numerous times) I started to try and appreciate my heritage and draw on some semblance of nationalism that I might have. Canadian Society 101: Reflection #5

http://canadiansociety101.blogspot.com/2010/12/reflection-5.html

Friday, December 3, 2010. Issues in the classroom. In class on November 16. For the second presentation we watched several video clips. One in particular was a comedian (I believe Dave Chappelle) who was talking and making jokes about aboriginal people. During this video everyone was laughing in class (even those of aboriginal background) and that is where I was a little confused, seeing as we just had a presentation on comments that offended aboriginals. This is how I feel about class on November 16.

Canadian Society 101: Review #1 Gender Stereotypes in Children’s Books

http://canadiansociety101.blogspot.com/2010/12/review-1-gender-stereotypes-in.html

Thursday, December 9, 2010. Review #1 Gender Stereotypes in Children’s Books. Pick up a handful of children books; you’ll notice (if looking) that most of them depict some kinds of gender stereotypes, gender roles, or even racisms. Where most books show the female characters being dependant on males, in the Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munch we see the female character illustrating a much different idea. The Paper Bag Princess is the story of a resourceful princess and her useless prince. Http:/ - http:/...

Between the White Space | Ramblings and musings

Between the White Space. On January 26, 2013. A co-worker randomly posted this missing persons sign to my whiteboard as a joke. I consider it a psych experiment and am interested in how people react to it. I secretly (ashamedly) judge people who make fun of it. A very merry unbirthday. On January 22, 2013. But I don’t want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked. 8220;Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”. 8220;How do you know I’m mad? 8221; said Alice.
