Occasional thoughts from a dyed-in-the-wool Mainer.who loves to knit. Sunday, August 16, 2015. What to do with those tomato soup cans? This is what you do with them:. 1 Empty them of the tomato soup, or the black olives, or the crushed pineapple, or whatever. 2 Wash and dry them. 3 Buy some acrylic paints at Walmart, 50¢ per bottle. Be sure to buy white, so you can tone down some of the colors, if you wish. 4 Buy a little bit of Plaster of Paris. You won't need much. 10 Pick some flowers. Blossoms until ...

Molly's Folks: Whooooo'll get this hat?

http://www.mollysfolksdownunder.blogspot.com/2015/08/whoooooll-get-this-hat.html

Occasional thoughts from a dyed-in-the-wool Mainer.who loves to knit. Monday, August 3, 2015. Whooooo'll get this hat? Here's a quick and easy knit, an owl hat. The pattern, Chouette,. Is by Ekaterina Blanchard of Katytricot, and it's available on Ravelry for $5. I enjoy reading the blog Knitionary,. Written by a lady in California whose knitting is lovely.( I'm as intrigued by the dinner parties she throws, though, as I am by her knitting. August 3, 2015 at 10:09 PM. That is just so cute! This Week in M...

Molly's Folks: September 2014

http://www.mollysfolksdownunder.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Occasional thoughts from a dyed-in-the-wool Mainer.who loves to knit. Monday, September 29, 2014. Traveling through Oregon and Washington. After Ken had done as much ancestry-searching as he'd planned for this trip, we then headed directly across Oregon, following the Columbia River as we neared Portland, to the Oregon Coast. (We also stopped at Multnomah Falls, above, and climbed the trail to the bridge.). I love the Oregon Coast, but it had been many years since we'd last visited the area. I took this ...

Molly's Folks: May 2015

http://www.mollysfolksdownunder.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Occasional thoughts from a dyed-in-the-wool Mainer.who loves to knit. Saturday, May 30, 2015. I love knitting Multnomah shawls. This is my fifth or sixth, I think. The yarn is Painted Desert, by Knitting Fever. By Kate Ray, is free on Ravelry. I knitted this rather small, to be used as an elegant scarf rather than a full-sized shawl. After the shawl was completely dry from its blocking session, I did the usual photo shoot. Thursday, May 28, 2015. And while it's spring here, it's also dangerously dry....

Molly's Folks: And then there is my other hydrangea...

http://www.mollysfolksdownunder.blogspot.com/2015/08/and-then-there-is-my-other-hydrangea.html

Occasional thoughts from a dyed-in-the-wool Mainer.who loves to knit. Thursday, August 13, 2015. And then there is my other hydrangea. This hydrangea is about 7-8 years old, if I remember correctly. It bloomed heavily the first few years we had it. Last year, it hardly bloomed at all. I read that one should not. Cut back the brown shoots in the spring, which is exactly what I'd been doing, so this spring I resisted the urge to give it a manicure. The plant had two. August 13, 2015 at 10:59 AM. Mop head h...

Molly's Folks: Gardening and hail

http://www.mollysfolksdownunder.blogspot.com/2015/08/gardening-and-hail.html

Occasional thoughts from a dyed-in-the-wool Mainer.who loves to knit. Saturday, August 8, 2015. I love going out to the front of the garage each morning to check out the new day's selection of morning glory blossoms. This is today's offering. My garden has been producing "bail peprs" at a steady rate. I'm also getting "zookeene," kale, "maters," and cukes daily now. The owl hats are multiplying. I've now made an infant-sized, child-sized, and medium adult-sized. I think I'll set the pattern aside...And t...

teachersays: More creative license plates

http://teaching-teachersays.blogspot.com/2013/12/more-creative-license-plates.html

Stuff from the head of a retired teacher, daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Sunday, December 15, 2013. More creative license plates. I'm certain that I've chuckled at a number of plates that I've forgotten, but I made some notes- written and verbal- to help me remember. People are creative and I, for one, am glad that they share with me. A well-used, small, blue pickup truck's plate said ZOMBKLR. A creamy, yellow crossover was SUN E 1. Could be a comment on attitude. The vehicle was white.

teachersays: Deteriorating Language Skills--updated yet again

http://teaching-teachersays.blogspot.com/2013/11/deteriorating-language-skills.html

Stuff from the head of a retired teacher, daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Monday, November 11, 2013. Deteriorating Language Skills- updated yet again. Red Lobster workers ". Sea food differently.". Doesn't sound wrong, but playing with spelling makes it strange. The drive-up says, "This is how you Sonic.". Apparently I don't sonic, because I have no idea what to do. The clothing store has, ".savings that make you go Kohls.". I don't know how to go Kohls any more than I know how to Sonic.

http://teaching-teachersays.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html

Stuff from the head of a retired teacher, daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Friday, May 10, 2013. We visited a while, and she told me I was her favorite teacher. Not only was that incredibly sweet of her to say, but it really makes me think. How many small things do we do that leave impressions- good and bad- on others? She was in my class at least 25 years ago, and in my memory she was a gentle, obedient, good-natured girl. What did I do to deserve that place in her memory? Molly's Folks ...

Stuff from the head of a retired teacher, daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Sunday, September 29, 2013. Jo, a retired teacher. Sunday, September 8, 2013. Annoying and way too loud. I have wondered about this because there are several stores whose music has driven me out. Odd, since I'm sure I have more disposable income than most 20-somethings. Hard to figure. Stuff from the head of a retired teacher, daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Monday, September 24, 2012. Commercial hyperbole is bugging me again. If you get a new pair of glasses from VisionWorks (used to be America's Best), you not only get the glasses but a better you. That's pretty impressive. I've known a person or two who could really use a new pair of glasses from there. Hey, if I get some glasses there, can I get rid of 20 pounds? That would make me better. Jo, a retired teacher.

http://teaching-teachersays.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Stuff from the head of a retired teacher, daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Thursday, December 6, 2012. Just got back from a trip to Australia and New Zealand. Had a lovely time and noticed some fun language differences. There was a sign on the cruise ship's Promenade Deck asking people to walk or jog in an anti-clockwise. Direction, rather than counter-clockwise. You don't call someone on the phone, you ring them up. If you are a bit chilly, you need to put on your jumper. Read if you dare.
