Our Own: New Job Foreman
http://ourownrooney.blogspot.com/2011/05/new-job-foreman.html
Wednesday, May 11, 2011. Another nonprofit has teamed up with the nonprofit I work for to build some raised garden beds for our seniors to grow some veggies in. One of the kids building the beds took the mysterious plastic baby doll that had been lying in the parking lot for the last few weeks and turned it into our friendly garden mascot. It makes me giggle. May 12, 2011 at 5:41 AM. Abe will get that. He will. His heart already knows it. May 12, 2011 at 10:10 AM. May 12, 2011 at 11:24 AM. No One Told Me.

Thursday, June 14, 2012. First day of kindergarten. Last day of kindergarten. Moment. She never once flinched at the prospect of welcoming at the 11th-hour a newly adopted child from a foreign country who spoke virtually no English. She will forever be one of my life's heroes. I have always loved and respected the teachers I've known, but now that I'm a parent of school-aged children, the value I give them has grown exponentially. We are so lucky, so thankful, so happy that Beti experienced what coul...

Monday, February 13, 2012. There was a professor who taught philosophy in the small liberal arts college I attended who let me live in his house for two summers. He lived there near the college with his wife, three kids and rambunctious dog. The family was glad to have students stay there while they spent their summers with their family in Pennsylvania. All they asked was that we pay the utilities and not break too much of their stuff. Dr Kenyon, until we meet again, may we all live as well as you did.

Sunday, July 15, 2012. Someday You'll Be Dead. Big, messy, unedited unloading of thoughts ahead. I sat there agreeing with everything the pastor was saying. About half-way through, I was itching for him to tell us some examples of how we should love. Is it just about being nicer to people? The last five minutes of the sermon was devoted to how we need to really understand that God loves us. The whole thing imploded in on itself. The navel-gazing began. 8221; But he didn’t respond. He had snorin...Once I ...

Monday, November 28, 2011. Why I Hardly Blog Anymore. Our kids exasperate us sometimes, which I'm pretty much over with. Parents shouldn't be as exasperated as we are. That's why my son is upstairs asleep right now: he wouldn't eat his lunch and rather than get exasperated with him, after giving him the choice (twice) between a nap and lunch, I just made the choice for him. Okay, nevermind, he's up. Maybe that didn't work so well. Sunday, November 27, 2011. Thursday, November 17, 2011. They just weren't ...

Thursday, March 22, 2012. For the last several days, one of the last things I do before bed is read articles like this one:. Monday, August 27, 2012. Because you never know. The veteran laughed a little because, really, it was an incredibly small thing. An man in his 80's was doing his grocery shopping and noticed a well-dressed woman in her forties picking out tomatoes. She turned to him and said, "How are you today? The old man rarely gives a straight answer, so he gave his standard reply of furrowed brow and "terrible.". The woman turned to face him and said, "No, that's not true. You're beautiful.". Can you believe that?

Tuesday, September 25, 2012. This morning we all overslept, so Ted ended up being the one to take the kids to school and in the rush to get out the door, I forgot to tell him to make sure Abe put the bag of carrots on his desk for morning snack. Well, lo and behold, as I was unpacking his lunchbox from school tonight before dinner, I noticed the carrots were gone. He told me that he'd remembered himself to put them on his desk for snack. This was confirmed by his dad. I got a golden ticket today! Tonight...
