Members take turns volunteering to host our playgroups. They usually meet in a member's home, however they also can meet at parks, the mall, restaurants or other locations. Playgroups encourage healthy social stimulation for the children. and for the moms as well! History of the MOMS Club:. In 1983 Mary James, an at-home mother in California, decided she was tired of being alone at home. She wanted to meet other at-home moms and she wanted to find playmates for her children. When she discovered there were no other organizations that met during the day and allowed her to come with her baby and her preschooler, she decided to start a brand new organization. The MOMS Club was born! We now have 2000 chapters in the US alone and over 100,000 members!
