.......................................{life and time}.....................................

Sunday, 21 July 2013. Remembering a boy with no name, and feeling strange. Coming home has been strange. It is strange to be born somewhere, and then to feel distant from that. It’s not that you fit in somewhere else. No, certainly not that. It’s just noticing a progressive removal from your own culture, and then being suddenly thrown into about a thousand realizations about your existence, and being acutely and unequivocally alone in that. Yes, the trouble is being inconsolable. If you hate your job so ...

.......................................{life and time}.....................................: the Return to Zambia

http://www.monaleesha.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-return-to-zambiai.html

Thursday, 25 April 2013. The Return to Zambia. I will never forget this day. Last week I went to a place called Maposa. It just worked out for me to tag along this particular bluebird day, so I happily hopped in the car with a sandwich and a coffee. And a coke zero. And a bag of cashews. And off we went into the crystal clear sunshine of the Zambian morning. I’m going to the park”. I’m sick of practical problem solving. Since when are people REALLY able to solve problems anyways?

http://www.monaleesha.blogspot.com/2013/03/life-is-beautiful-struggle.html

Monday, 25 March 2013. Life is a beautiful struggle. He will do great things. Doin' some dishes under the ol' tree. I am a human being. I have no idea why I am in this body, or why I am in this mind. I do not pretend to understand this world in which I find myself. But how could all this possibly be coincidence? One day I will go there when I am successful,” he said, lovingly flipping the worn pages of his most prized possession. 8220;They were left in a field and given shovels and their boss told them t...

Monday, 25 February 2013. Worry (read this in an english accent). We people are a funny bunch wouldn’t you say? If there are aliens, and they are some sort of humanoid with big green noggins, I highly doubt they spend even 1/24. Lately my brain is absolutely tireless. If I used my muscles as much as my brain I’d look like an Ethiopian sprinter. And maybe not the female variety. (that tends to happen when girls work out too much). Simple template. Monday, 18 March 2013. Close up of grandmother's face, she was once very beautiful.). This is all we've ever known" she says smiling, but there is pain in her face. Two local women wearing CBO t-shirts enter the yard under an umbrella, smiling and chatting with a neighbor as they walk through the rusted chain-link gate. They say in unison. Yeybo" the grandmother smiles and looks at her hands. Pleasantries are exchanged, these women have obviously known each other a long time. Says one care worker. Often ...

Jess in South Africa: The Value of 'No'

http://jessinsafrica.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-value-of-no.html

Jess in South Africa. Saturday, July 25, 2015. The Value of 'No'. Well, the time is almost here! We leave for Zambia NEXT SATURDAY! Can you believe it? I'm not sure I can! I finally sat down to update you guys on what is going on. You can check out the prayer requests here. And a little information about our trip here. Can you believe it's July? The end of July at that! So I need to learn to be less of a Martha and more of a Mary sometimes. And breath, and take time to enjoy the quiet instead of rush...

Jess in South Africa: November 2014

http://jessinsafrica.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Jess in South Africa. Friday, November 28, 2014. Some of my avid readers might remember my well after the fact blog about the Hands USA Family Reunion. Last year. It was only 11 weeks after the fact. This year is slightly better at seven weeks! George's US tour schedule is always jam packed, but this year was especially exciting! Last year we focused on getting all the advocates together: from people who had been to Africa as long as 6 years ago to me (at the time) only six months ago! We arrived late Fr...

Jess in South Africa: Home

http://jessinsafrica.blogspot.com/2015/05/home.html

Jess in South Africa. Monday, May 18, 2015. I made it home yesterday by lunchtime. I was able to spend the afternoon unpacking and taking it easy. The key to traveling long distance is, for me, a head game. On my way to Africa I can't sleep eight hours on a plane, so I watch the flight-map. I normally take a short nap while we are waiting for dinner to be served, then another afternoon nap after dinner (because carb-comas, am I right? Friends don't let friends take naps! I would say I don't do a lot when...

Jess in South Africa: July 2015

http://jessinsafrica.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Jess in South Africa. Thursday, July 30, 2015. Well, we just had our final team meeting over Skype. We fly on Saturday! God has been SO KIND. As this trip drew near, I felt very uncertain about getting all of my work done, for my job and for Hands US, before I left. As of today, I've done the majority of what I needed to do - and the more time consuming jobs at that! So I just have to tidy a few things up during the next two days of work and I'll be good to go! And finishing packing. That too. Zambia wil...
