A journal of John and Gail LeRoy and their trip from Deale, Maryland around the "Great Loop" to their home in Pensacola, Floriday. Sunday, September 23, 2007. We were unable to blog last night, but here we are anchored in a less than desirable anchorage right on the Mississippi, about 7.5 miles north of the mouth of the 0hio River. We are downstream of a little island, so we are out of most of the 4 mph current. This is the mouth of the Kaskaskia River as we left at dawn. We found the current to be 4 mph.

We are currently in the Demopolis Yacht Basin in Demopolis, AL. This is the last real marina we will see until we reach Mobile. Weather, mechanical problems, and crowding of the marinas and anchorages could delay us along the way, but we are definitely on the home stretch. We are really looking forward to being back home! Dorothy Spletter Yackley e-mailed John with the news she had heard from one of Virginia Maller Hartmann's kids telling her that Virginia had passed away August 4 from cancer. When I last updated you on John's condition, he had just arrived back at St Mary's Hospital for a resumption of physical therapy. Since then, each day he gets better and better because of the intense therapy and his strong will. Anyhow, please continue with the e-mails and cards. And please keep up the good thoughts and prayers - - they are the magic bullet to recovery.

DGHS Class of '57 News. Up-to-date news reports about your classmates. Sunday, March 15, 2015. My last report on John had him awaiting transfer back to the rehab hospital. Well, that's been accomplished and he's having some 3 hours of therapy per day. The staph infection is "gone", tho he will remain on antibiotics for the foreseeable future. The doctors anticipate a stay of at least 5 more weeks in rehab at which time he'll be reevaluated and a decision about future therapy will be reached. Our deepest ...

I thought I would let our class know what I've been doing the last few years at Christmas. I never expected to have this job, but it is great. I hope that all of you have been good!
