The Hurley Bird Catches the Worm: Cardiff Promoted on Pope's Birthday
http://gareth-hurley.blogspot.com/2013/04/cardiff-promoted-on-popes-birthday.html
Friday, 26 April 2013. Cardiff Promoted on Pope's Birthday. I have already proved, beyond reasonable doubt that Pope (Emeritus) Benedict XVI is Welsh: see post here. Now it's settled for good after Cardiff City held back winning promotion to the Premier League until Pope Benedict's birthday, the 16th of April. Right: Cardiff City's new away strip for 2013-14 Season? Posted by Gareth Hurley Blog. No foul language please. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Read the Blog or I'll Take You Down! The Hurley Bird Catches the Worm: Edward Hurley - Uncle Eddie - RIP
http://gareth-hurley.blogspot.com/2013/03/edward-hurley-uncle-eddie-rip.html
Saturday, 16 March 2013. Edward Hurley - Uncle Eddie - RIP. Three years ago today my Uncle Eddie passed away. He was a "typical Hurley man" and that's the finest thing I can say, the greatest epithet that any of us could hope for. I was greatly upset at the time, because I had been rushed into hospital and so was unable to get to his funeral and pay my respects to him. And many's the time Uncle Eddie would overhear and say "leave him alone - he's only having fun." He always seemed to have a twinkle i...
The Hurley Bird Catches the Worm: Eleanor of Aquitaine and Our Freedoms
http://gareth-hurley.blogspot.com/2014/07/eleanor-of-aquitaine-and-our-freedoms.html
Sunday, 13 July 2014. Eleanor of Aquitaine and Our Freedoms. Without Eleanor of Aquitaine we may not have the freedoms the government is now trying to take away. 1 She became Queen of England and the Angevin Empire/Dynasty. 2 She enabled the rise of William Marshall, probably the greatest knight of his age who served Henry II and Richard I. 3 Later as Earl of Pembroke he brought King John and the rebel barons together. 4 This resulted in Magna Carta, which William signed after the death of King John.
The Hurley Bird Catches the Worm: Cardinal Nichols, Cardiff City, Reds V the Blues
http://gareth-hurley.blogspot.com/2014/05/cardinal-nichols-cardiff-city-reds-v.html
Sunday, 18 May 2014. Cardinal Nichols, Cardiff City, Reds V the Blues. In a week when Mr Fox snacked on our chickens, we needed something to lift our spirits. How nice then to see Cardinal Nichols with a Cardiff City shirt. Such a shame that he chose the red version and not the Marian blue (with yellow and white Vatican trim), so beloved of many popes. I know he got a red hat, but to empathise with Cardiff fans perhaps he should have chosen a blue hat? A blue hat for blue times. No foul language please.

The Hurley Bird Catches the Worm: Richard Vivian Huzzey RIP
http://gareth-hurley.blogspot.com/2013/09/richard-vivian-huzzey-rip.html
Wednesday, 18 September 2013. Richard Vivian Huzzey RIP. The singing of the hymn (Love Divine) was amazing - the Welsh fittingly fulfilling one of our stereotypes. It was like standing in the middle of a group of male voice choirs. The booming words echoed in the chapel. Perhaps I was too innocent, but I didn't remember that detail. What a lovely lady to chat to, just like her parents were lovely to spend time with all those years ago. It's funny the things that stick in our memories isn't it? Speaking t...
The Hurley Bird Catches the Worm: Bart Finishes the Lights
http://gareth-hurley.blogspot.com/2015/04/bart-finishes-lights.html
Thursday, 16 April 2015. Bart Finishes the Lights. Bartholomew Q. Kibble-Smythe (the spider) has finally finished the trunking over the electric wires. Let there be light! It struck me he's given to melodramatics. But a good sparky is worth his weight in gold. That's £20 with Bart. I asked him if he liked quoting Genesis and he mumbled something appreciative of Peter Gabriel (and "Collins should've kept to the drums") before scuttling away. Ever the primadonna. Posted by Gareth Hurley Blog. Osama and Oba...

The Gospel for the Fourth Sunday of Lent. Gospel Lk 15:1-3, 11-32. Tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to listen to Jesus,. Assumption Abbey : Monastic Vocations
Fr Terrence Kardong, OSB. Monk of Assumption Abbey, Richardton, ND. Do I Have a Vocation? Christian monasticism appeared around 250 CE in Egypt, Syria and other Near Eastern countries. The first known ascetic person to go into solitude in the Egyptian desert is St. Anthony (251-. 356) He is often referred to as the father of monks. The ascetical life, however, can be traced back to the first century of the Christian era. For monks, which eventually became the common rule for monasteries throughout Europe.

The Monastic Way is an evolving concept which gives visiting tourists and explorers an alternative route to travel from Dublin to Galway, along an ancient Irish route, taking in sites of historical significance and monastic settlements. This 'tour' through Ireland is devised so that vistors, explorers, walkers or hikers can join or leave the route easily at their leisure at various points. Alternatively they can remain for longer in the most ancient monastic area of Ireland.
