Its my life, hobbies, pastimes, jokes and the occasional rant. Monday, November 20, 2006. I've been very busy for weeks now, working on the mill restoration and the mill web-site. As well as my own recipe web-site. On Saturday the sun was shining and the day was clear and crisp so we decided to check out the autumn colours at Bodenham Arboretum. The very first photo I took turned out to be the best of the bunch so I thought I'd post it here. Posted by Richard Galle at 8:54 am. Links to this post.

Its my life, hobbies, pastimes, jokes and the occasional rant. Thursday, March 30, 2006. Only one working week left. Another working week comes to an end, only one more to go. I'm going into the office tomorrow for my formal retirement presentation and then I finally retire on 6th April. Margaret has a number of jobs round the house lined up, never mind the garden. My office cum workroom has been in need of spring cleaning for the last five Springs so it might even make it to the top of the list this...

Its my life, hobbies, pastimes, jokes and the occasional rant. Thursday, September 28, 2006. Shelsley Watermill - X. We split into three pairs today and made an impression on the work. One pair used the borrowed JCB to remove the stump of the laurel bush that used to overhang the front door of the mill. This laurel proved to be actually two bushes and they were both extremely tenacious. Some judicious digging and the appliance of a considerable amount of brute force did the trick in the end. The final pa...

Its my life, hobbies, pastimes, jokes and the occasional rant. Thursday, April 27, 2006. Work on the skeleton clock has continued this week but I have spent quite a lot of time watching auctions on e-Bay for cases for grandfather clocks. The prices that are being realised are amazing! There was one case that fetched  450 and several have reached over  300. Posted by Richard Galle at 9:19 am. Links to this post. Sunday, April 23, 2006. Posted by Richard Galle at 1:38 pm. Its my life, hobbies, pastimes, jokes and the occasional rant. Thursday, December 07, 2006. When I saw the TV programme about Donna Nook I thought it looked too good to be true. This week we went to see for ourselves. This has to be a unique nature reserve, in the UK at least. The foreshore is used by the Ministry of Defense as an aerial gunnery and bombing range and by Atlantic Grey Seals as a breeding rookery. But it was very tempting to touch a seal pup to feel how soft the fur is. Posted by Richard G...

Its my life, hobbies, pastimes, jokes and the occasional rant. Monday, June 05, 2006. We are leaving on vacation tomorrow, by ferry to Northern Spain and then through the Pyrenees lengthwise. Apart from visiting our offspring in France the trip is planned to give the Mercedes a good work-out on mountain roads as well as giving us some good walking exercise and the possibility of spotting new (to us) birds and animals. I will try to bring back some interesting pictures and maybe even some video.

Its my life, hobbies, pastimes, jokes and the occasional rant. Friday, October 13, 2006. When the phone rings in the middle of the night it is a bit scary but this time it was good news. Felix Richard John Gallé was born on Friday 13th October, weighing in at 7 1/2 pounds with strawberry blonde hair. Our first grandchild! Both mother and baby are doing well in hospital in Toulouse. Its my life, hobbies, pastimes, jokes and the occasional rant. Friday, July 27, 2007. This got me thinking about the general safety of 4wd vehicles and I came to what I think is an interesting conclusion. 4wd vehicles are inherently less safe than 2wd vehicles. Ignoring all the psychobabble about feeling safer in a larger vehicle which I don’t understand, this is my theory. So we now have a heavier vehicle which is not as easy to stop, but the same number of brakes. On top of this the 4wd vehicle is ...

Its my life, hobbies, pastimes, jokes and the occasional rant. Thursday, August 31, 2006. Shelsley Watermill - III. Take four gentlemen of retirement age, four buckets and spades and a wheelbarrow and stand back. An eyeball estimate of the spoil-heap from today's efforts suggests that we moved about 1 1/2 tons of wet clay soil out of the bottom of the tailrace along with uncounted bricks.
