How do you get to? Musings on our adventures abroad. Tuesday, December 24, 2013. SE asia, here we come: hanoi, vietnam. It’s official: Vietnam is the best. Here’s why:. 1 The people are super friendly, and it seems real, not just contrived to take your money. (Although also contrived to take your money.). 2 Everything’s “easy.” This one has subpoints…. A We showed up in Hanoi with an itinerary and no train tickets, something that worried us. We mentioned this to our hotel, and voila. Is really enjoying t...

http://howdoyougetto.blogspot.com/2014/01/a-typical-vacation-day.html
How do you get to? Musings on our adventures abroad. Tuesday, January 28, 2014. A typical vacation day. We 3 Malaysia, and it's not because of these awesome ads. We see all the time on Indian TV. Tomorrow, we leave for our final country - Singapore - and it'll be a sad farewell. Getting ready for the day - late, of course. it's vacation! From the cool bungalow to the hot sun. We always start the day with coffee. always. One of the many PP street kitties. Morning language study and general work time.

how do you get to?: October 2014
http://howdoyougetto.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
How do you get to? Musings on our adventures abroad. Tuesday, October 21, 2014. It's been a long while since my last post, not surprising given the hectic pace of quarter 1 2014. I picked up a new prep this year when I started teaching AP English 12, so those eleven weeks were tough ones. Now we've reached the idyllic quarter break. This year, Chris and I opted to stay home and chill. Which is just what we needed. We're both sick (figures), but at least I can spend all day in my PJs. Second stop: Ajmer&#...

how do you get to?: December 2012
http://howdoyougetto.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
How do you get to? Musings on our adventures abroad. Wednesday, December 26, 2012. Big city livin' at its finest in mumbai. We somehow finished our first semester at the beginning of December—it was a mad dash to the finish—and then, like most all Woodstockers—promptly ditched the chilly mountain climes for warmer digs. We kicked things off in Mumbai, the world’s fourth-largest city that has been rated the world’s least-livable city. (Seriously, here’s the link. Stuffed to the gills, indeed. The Taj Maha...

how do you get to?: Kamsahamnida (thank you), Korea!
http://howdoyougetto.blogspot.com/2015/07/kamsahamnida-thank-you-korea.html
How do you get to? Musings on our adventures abroad. Thursday, July 2, 2015. Kamsahamnida (thank you), Korea! Chris and I recently returned from a 10-day holiday in beautiful Korea. It was especially interesting to visit straight from India, as the two countries provide such contrasts to each other. Chris and I were struck by several cultural practices that differed from India, and I’ll use this brief post to note them here…. 8211; the chicken was good enough to warrant the behavior…. So, so quiet. Our e...

how do you get to?: high stakes
http://howdoyougetto.blogspot.com/2014/06/high-stakes.html
How do you get to? Musings on our adventures abroad. Monday, June 9, 2014. At one point during a professional development workshop geared toward AP English Language teachers, my workshop leader noted that the external exam is a “high stakes test”. For him, this meant that the exam was designed so that most students would find it impossible. Why put in so much effort? June 9, 2014 at 7:21 AM. Beautifully said, Melanie.♥ See you soon, Aunt Bobbie. June 11, 2014 at 3:21 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

how do you get to?: April 2013
http://howdoyougetto.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
How do you get to? Musings on our adventures abroad. Monday, April 1, 2013. It’s been several months since our last update, as school has again taken over our lives. We’ve worked hard, but we do have time for our own hobbies. Chris writes his crime fiction and edits his blog, and I run. A typical running scene. (thanks for snapping this, tara! 1 I care about health and understand that running is good for my body. 2 I enjoy the social bonds that come via running. An average Mussoorie run. And then some up...

how do you get to?: reflecting on daily life
http://howdoyougetto.blogspot.com/2015/06/reflecting-on-daily-life.html
How do you get to? Musings on our adventures abroad. Thursday, June 4, 2015. Reflecting on daily life. Ahhhh We're safely into the beginnings of a summer break here at WS, and it is glorious! Today Chris and I played our favorite game - "what would we be doing right now? We look at the clock and remember what class or meeting we would be in at the time, and then exclaim "Yay! When we look at our current state: taking a nap, reading a book for fun, walking the dog slowly around the chakkar. During my prep...

how do you get to?: April 2015
http://howdoyougetto.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
How do you get to? Musings on our adventures abroad. Wednesday, April 1, 2015. Several months, rough ones, have passed since my last blog. Some of you know that Chris and I recently went through a miscarriage. It's been a difficult experience, but we're working through it and are hopeful for the future. This post isn't a cry for sympathy, but a chance to reflect on poetry as a processing agent. At the doctor’s office, I see a circle -. Symbol of unity, wholeness,. So perfect, its round white skeleton.
